braun and brewers in new york times today

I think its funny that the whole first part just gives a background on who the Brewers are because the NY media has totally ignored them forever and NY fans are mostly clueless on any non-NYY/BOS news. Like mentioning the Brewers went to the 1982 WS, or they have a retractable roof stadium, Braun won the ROY etc. Imagine if it was the other way and the Journal Sentinel did a story on who the Yankees were to refresh the Milwaukee fans:

Today the Brewers will be traveling to New York to play the Yankees. The Yankees have Derek Jeter, a SS following in the steps of Robin Yount, who will soon become their first player to reach 3000 hits to go along with Alex "A-Rod" Rodriguez who has over 600 career HRs, Mark Teixeira, 1B, who currently leads the AL in HRs and 2-hitter Curtis Granderson who leads the league in runs scored. The Yankees are a storied franchise who have won 27 World Series titles, most recently in 2009, and have a long lineage of players including George "Babe" Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe Dimaggio and Mickey Mantle. Until their recent success of making the playoffs 16 out of the last 17 seasons, their fans mostly associated the Yankees only with these former greats when times were tough during the only two times the team missed the postseason for more than 3 straight years since 1920 from 1965-'75 and again from 1982-1994. Coincidentally, since 1994 the Yankees have had the highest payroll in MLB every single season and things are looking bright in the near future for their fanbase who currently holds a 1/2 game lead in the American League East Division.

It's not so much that New York fans are unaware of the Brewers and have to have everything explained to them, it's just the style of writing the New York Times uses. Just about every story will have extensive history included.

Tyler Kepner's a really good writer, though, and the piece is definitely worth taking the time to read. I saw him tweeting from Miller Park during the last homestand and was wondering why he was in town. He had a ton of good things to say about Miller Park and Brewers fans.

Huh, thats odd because a few months ago a big deal was made in the media about the BoSox having the biggest payroll
From Cots, the Yankees' payroll is just north of $200M, while the Red Sox are at $163M and the Phillies are at $165M. I was surprised to see the Phillies higher than the Sawx.
