2011-06-19 Brewers (Gallardo) at Red Sox (Wakefield) - [Brewers lose, 12-3]

Does this game have any additional meaning today? If the Brewers walk out of Fenway winning 2 of 3 does that send a message to the AL and the rest of the NL or is this just 1 game on the schedule of 162.

I think this team is starting (if they don't already) believe they can win the division and make a run in the playoffs, 2008 alot of these guys were "babies" but now our offense is seasoned and we arguably have the best starting 4 in the NL and Axford has done the job and he was electric last night.

I would love to win this game today and plant a little seed in Francona and his troops.

Gallardo was down with a knee injury when the Brewers last played in Boston in 2008, so this will be his first visit to Fenway Park.

In his last start, he took a tough-luck loss to the Rays, allowing one earned run over seven innings while throwing 119 pitches, his highest total since 2003. Wakefield is four wins away from 200 in his career.

I love watching knuckleballers pitch. Should be a fun one!

Gomez and Yuni in the same lineup will be interesting, especially against a knuckler. I could honestly see Wakefield throw a 80 pitch CG today.

I wonder why Roenicke is putting Lucroy/Kottaras in the 9-hole and Betancourt in the 6-hole. Meh.

Just another game on the schedule. We're in first at the end of the day, regardless.

For what it's worth, there's on writer on ESPN.com (and it's the main story on the MLB page) that says this is a world series preview. Again, for what it's worth.

It's both...

If they win or even if they lose in a close game, I think it adds to the team's (and fans') confidence that they can compete with the best.

OTOH, if they are blown out, then maybe yesterday's win starts to mean less.

Ultimately though, going 1-2 here and, say, winning 7 of 9 against the Pirates the rest of the year would be better than winning 2 of 3 here and going 4-5 against the Pirates.

Betancourt's now at -0.6 WAR this year. Ouch.
In Neifi Perez' "Worst Season Ever", he put up a .243 wOBA, -13.0 UZR and 3.1 BSR for a grand total of -2.9 WAR.

Currently, Yuni is at a .246 wOBA, -4.8 UZR and 1.7 BSR, but is only at -0.6 WAR.

I'm pretty sure the only difference here is the quality of league hitting. The 2002 aggregate batting line from the NL was .259/.331/.410/.741. The current 2011 aggregate batting line from the NL is only .251/.319/.385/.704.

In any other year, Yuni would be even further into the negative WAR.

If you're a fan saying this is just another game on the schedule that's OK but I don't think the players or the manager is taking it that way and I like that.

I think RR has raised the bar and the players are buying into it. Hios statements involving our staff and our offense, he makes these gentle little statements and they all mean " hey you guys are really good, let's take care of business" kind of stuff.

I don't have a problem with Yuni playing as much as I do Gomez. Yuni is a career .316 hitter against Wakefield. I guess Gomez is playing because he's 2-5 against him. Ugh. There's no way both should be in the lineup. The biggest problem I have is Morgan not hitting 2nd. If these are the players that have to play I'd go with Weeks Morgan Braun Fielder McGehee Hart Betancourt Lucroy Gomez as the lineup. But if I was making the decisions I'd have the same lineup as Game 1 out there. Makes the most sense to me.

I see this going one of two ways: Wakefield totally shuts us down for 8 innings and we meet Pabelbon or we knock Wakefield out by the 3rd inning and we nervously cling to a 5+ run lead.

Its a shame TBS is blacked out here. I would love to hear BA as a neutral observer.

Also, this is probably our best defensive outfield since 2008, at least.

Doesn't look like BA is doing the game on TBS.

Go Crew! This game is very winnable (they all are!).

You don't have an Adam Wainwright. Easily the best gentlemen in all of sports. You don't have the amount of real good old American men like the Cardinals do. Holliday, Wainwright, Skip, Berkman those 4 guys are incredible people

If we win today we go 3-4 on this roadtrip, I know a lot of peopel said before the trip started they would be happy with that, is that still the case?

I think I would be about equally happy with the Red Sox series and disappointed in the Cubs series, so if we win today then I'd call it a wash

I tried to log in on my iPad. Turns out it was an etch-a-sketch and I don't own an iPad. Also, I'm out of vodka.
