Shaun Marcum

7-2 | 2.68

Fenway Park will feel familiar to Marcum, considering he pitched parts of five seasons in the AL East with Toronto. He's had success against the Red Sox there -- 3-2 with a 3.52 ERA in eight games, including six starts.

4-5 | 7.41

Lackey notched his second straight win since returning from the DL his last time out, allowing four runs on six hits through six innings. The 32-year-old continues to rebuild his arm strength after missing nearly a month with a strained right elbow.

Nothing to help rebuild Lackey's numbers and confidence like mowing through the Brewers hitters. I love when almost every pitcher sets season or career strikeout marks against us. I can't wait to here Bill singing praises about Lackey's great pitching and saying the Brewers ran into bad luck facing a good pitching performance.

The good new is that the Cardinals have also stopped playing baseball. However we let the Reds and the Pirates (the Pirates?!?) back into the picture. It seems like the NL Central is going to be a game of "Not It" all year.

I'm happy for Pirates fans, it is nice for them to have a competing team for a change. They will probably finish 10 games out this year, but the franchise appears to be headed in the right direction.

Given the 25 man roster, I don't mind Kotsay playing 1B. He probably handles the position fine. I would have liked to see Gamel or Green up for interleague, but so it goes. I actually would have liked to see Kotarras get a shot at 1B over Kotsay, but that's not a huge improvement.

Weeks 4 Morgan 8 Braun 7 Fielder DH McGehee 5 Hart 9 Kotsay 3 Lucroy 2 Counsell 6

Here's the lineup with Marcum pitching. I don't mind it. Especially like that Counsell is playing.

I just heard on the radio Nyjer Morgan was batting 9th. Don't know if they were wrong or this is.

I tried to log in on my iPad. Turns out it was an etch-a-sketch and I don't own an iPad. Also, I'm out of vodka.

There's definitely a risk of rain tonight. They have a window right now but I don't know how long it is going to last. At this juncture I think they will get the game in, but that could change if there is more development.

Radio is. Brewers and Haudricourt have Morgan in the 2 spot.

We'll have to wait and see if it comes into play at all in the series, but Papelbon is out for the first two games.
Red Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon had the appeal of his three-game suspension heard on Friday. It was reduced to two games. He will serve the suspension on Friday and Saturday against the Brewers and will be eligible to return on Sunday. In his absence, Daniel Bard is likely to be used in save opportunities.---from cbssportsline.com
Everything I've ever known, I've learned from Brewerfan.net....Seriously though

I'll predict that the Brewers get off to a quick 4-0 lead then the game gets called in the middle of the 4th inning, rendering the lead and our favorable pitching matchup null and void.

I agree with you, but it see why they didn't with the interleague schedule of 1 series away 2 at home and 1 away. They wouldn't be used at home with no DH.

And opposing fans say the same thing about their team when guys like Suppan, Parra, Capuano, Narveson, Bush, Estrada, etc..have/had a great start against them. The problem is that fans expect the Brewers offense to do well against every mediocre starting pitcher they face. That's simply not a realistic expectation.

Furthermore, it's not like Lackey is even a bad pitcher! Sure, he's gotten knocked around in 51 IP this year but he still has an updated ZiPS ERA projection of 4.55. Unless he's lost velocity or has some other sign of injury, I would bet on his projection more than what his current stats suggest. Against an average NL offense (like the Brewers?), he might have an expected ERA of 4.25. An average offense vs. an average defense/pitching is going to score 2 or less runs something like a quarter of the time and 3 or less runs nearly half the time.

So if Lackey gives up 2 or less runs in 6 innings, that's nothing extraordinary.

I remember the first game last time...sat underneath Fenway for over 2 hours drinking beers before they called the game...sold enough beer to pay for Crawford & Gonzalez. Plenty of Brewers fans...I'm betting it's the same thing tonight!

I was there for that rain out game too. Lots of loud "lets go brewers" chants ringing through the concourses
