Carlos Corporan Still Hitting 1.000

Carlos Corporan was 1-for-1 in 2009 with the Brewers, but that hit was off Reds SS Paul Janish in a mop-up game.

 

Now just-called up to back up J.R. Towles in Houston, he pinch hit and singled off the spelling-challenged Cristhian Martinez of the Braves, who at last check, resembled an actual big league reliever.

 

Congrats also to Aussie OF Trent Oeltjen, who should see quite a bit of time with L.A. in the Dodgers' never-ending search for a left fielder.

That game was Braun's career high in RBI with 6, a grand slam and a 2 run single off of Janish. Here are his career high RBI games:

Corporan was a favorite of mine as he toiled through 7 seasons in the Brewer system. I don't recall the exact circumstances but I remember after he got the word he was called up by the Brewers, he lost it when he called his grandfather in Puerto Rico to tell him. Lots of people didn't believe in him. I admired him if anything for his perseverance.

He had a heck of a year last year with an .870 OPS at Reno. With the dearth of catching in the majors, it's about time he gets more than a 1 AB trial.
