2011-06-07 Mets (Capuano) at Brewers (Marcum) - [Brewers lose, 2-1]

I think Brewers fans as a whole are knowledgeable about the game.

They said the flight from Miami arrived at like 3 AM. That's not especially late, I think the Mets just have good pitching tonight.

According the BA and Rock earlier, they got in at 4AM. Been thinking all night that may have something to do with the results. That said, Braunie looks to be cooling off just a bit. Don't know if it's shoulder related. Prince is carrying a lot of the load right now. Was nice to win those games in FL, but they were one run games that could easily have gone the other way. This team has been relying heavily on its starting pitching and they certainly got another good performance in that regard again tonight, even if Marcum wasn't at his best.

Let's hope they can find a way here in the bottom of the inning.

This is when we need that Branyan-type off the bench. Too bad he wasn't available at one point this year. Oh wait...
This is Jack Burton in the Pork Chop Express, and I'm talkin' to whoever's listenin' out there.

Have to hand it to Cappy...he took advantage of a wide strike zone and some jumpy hitters and nailed his spots. Change up guys seem to be a tough matchup for us.

On the plus side...that's still 20/27 and they can go home and get a good night sleep, Lucroy had a decent night after struggling on the road, Gomez shows he has value even when stinking at the plate and how about Marcum...the guy had nothing tonight yet somehow got through 6 scoreless...that's some serious grit (and not some Jason Kendall type grit...think John Wayne).

Back at it tomorrow Brewerfan.

Well, you must be even sicker now.

Ha, lazy play by Reyes

Glad to see Estrada blow leads in his last two outings. Good thing RRR keeps putting him in with leads and keeps Mitre in a mop up role.

Really? Estrada's actually pitched pretty well this year, especially out of the bullpen. Including this game, he's only given up 4 runs in 14 innings out of the bullpen (2 in 12 before this). Mitre's pitched well too but you can't act like Estrada has been awful.

When did I say he was awful? I just don't see why he is in there in the 7th in a one run game when RRR could have gone with Hawkins who hasn't allowed a run in 15 appearances now. I don't know why I mentioned Mitre; he isn't any better. Frustration speaking there.ny

Some late reports from the game;

Did the crowd give Cappy a standing O?

It wasn't a standing O, but he did get very nice applause, both when they announced the lineups and even more when he came to bat for the first time, and no booing that I could make out. I was kind of hoping he would get taken out in the middle of an inning to see if they crowd would give him a good send off too.

Just an observation - Brewers fans have become worse than Cubs fans when it comes to screaming at a normal fly out thinking it was gone...

The humidity really changed the game last night I think. I'm not one to be fooled into thinking everything is a home run, but last night there were probably 3 or 4 balls that looked and sounded like homers off the bat, that died in the outfield. Even Beltran's near homer looked like it was going to be a moon shot at first. In general I think there has been an uptick in the crowd thinking anything in the air is going out, but last night wasn't a fair judgement.

A frustrating loss for sure. Surprised no one really got on RR for going to Estrada in the 7th. I know he has been pretty good, but at the time I was surprised he didn't go with a Braddock/Hawkins combintation in the 7th and 8th with Loe or Axford coming into close it out in the 9th (not sure if Ax was available as I was watching the game on mute).

You don't have an Adam Wainwright. Easily the best gentlemen in all of sports. You don't have the amount of real good old American men like the Cardinals do. Holliday, Wainwright, Skip, Berkman those 4 guys are incredible people
