As per Chris Mehring:

RHP Eric Marzec to DL retroactive to 7/14

The 23-year-old Marzec has posted fantastic numbers this season, as the above link attests.

RHP Casey Medlen transferred to Wisconsin from Arizona

The slight (6'0", 155) Medlen escapes the Arizona heat. He was this year's 37th round pick out of the University of North Florida. Medlen turns 22 next month.

Should LHP Zach Braddock join Nashville today, a corresponding move will need to be made to free up a roster spot.
Braddock has been formally placed on the AAA Temporary Inactive List, as per the Nashville Media Notes.

It's crazy to read too much into such a thing, but given Zach's past, how do you not? Just an awkward situation for all involved, including Zach's fans.

How much time is a player allowed to spend on the Inactive List? I have to admit I don't recall hearing about the Inactive List before.

A player with an excused absence to perform personal obligations is placed on this list. The player must be on the Temporarily Inactive List for a minimum of three days before the player can be reinstated to the Active List.

A player on the Temporarily Inactive List does not count against a Club’s Active List limits, but does count against its Reserve List limits.

Not aware of a maximum number of days.

Good reminder from Toby regarding this.

Wow, yes there are a bunch of catchers on this team. Riggins (unknown injury) and Neda (re-injuring his hand/thumb), look to be staying there (DL) for a while. Garfield was activated, but still has quite a ways to go before his quad injury will allow him to be assigned back to Wis. or even some talk of Brevard depending on the situation there. As for the rest of the catchers assigned to AZ., I guess it's a learning curve thing for the rest of the season.

LHP Alan Williams and his 28 K's in 14 Helena innings have received an earned promotion to Wisconsin (MiLB.com page).

The 21-year-old indy league signee is destined to follow the Joe Thatcher career path, you can book it. And that's a very good thing. Just hope he isn't dealt to the Padres.

The Rattlers remain one below the 25-man roster limit.

Update: Baseball America reported on 07-14-11, that the following players were released by the Brewers, RHP Damon Krestalude, C Gerald Ogrinc, OF Brandon Jones. So, that seems to be one less catcher in Az. Why they are still carrying Ogrinc on the roster is anyones guess. Somebody, anybody know?

Don't always go by the MiLB.com roster page you're viewing. Those pages get updated when the organization (often the affiliates' media relations departments) send an email to the MiLB.com home office asking for them to update the page. In this case, either someone in the Brewers' front office or the MiLB office has dropped the ball. Unless we're told otherwise, Ogrinc, a 23-year-old undrafted free agent signed in June 2010, is no longer in the organization.

Thanks for the roster update answer. Have another one for you. When a player goes on the DL, isn't there a final time limit (20 days) ? If so, isn't it safe to say that if an injured player reaches the 20 day mark and is still not fully rehabbed, isn't the organization required to assign them to the rehab location to open up a roster spot at the players last assignment?

Absolutely no time limit on a DL assignment. The organization fills the roster spot by replacing the injured player while he is on the DL, regardless of rehab assignment or not. You'll notice that all of the full-season affiliates are almost always at their roster limit.

Here's the Major League Forum thread on Brett Carroll's callup to Milwaukee to replace the injured Carlos Gomez. Carroll can slide into any of the three OF spots, is certainly CF-capable, and as Toby mentions here, makes for a very logical choice.

We'll see how creative the Brewers get in any subsequent organizational outfield shuffle. If there's a chain reaction not involving Khris Davis, will this forum explode?

Or the Sounds could simply activate Patrick Arlis http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif...let's hold off on further commentary within this transaction thread for now. We'll see what is announced Thursday.

Miscelleaneous roster moves not related to Brett Carroll or any outfield shuffling --

C Mike Roberts placed on DL at Brevard County

C Brent Dean transferred from Helena to Brevard County

RHP Eric Marzec activated from Wisconsin's DL. The Rattler roster is now still one below the league limit of 25 active. Thank you, Mr. Mehring, for the Marzec update.

The plot (and the roster) thickens at Wisconsin, where not only LHP Alan Williams will join the Rattlers as early as Friday, but Helena staff has notified us that RHP Seth Lintz has been activated from his rehab stint with Helena and has been returned to Wisconsin's roster.

The "rehab" designation of Lintz' assignment this spring has been noted before, so he definitely was working his way back from some injury, although the 2008 2nd round pick has never actually pitched in a full-season league game, and yet he's being "returned" to Wisconsin. Semantics.

Regardless, apparently Lintz (season and career stats), who has yet to perform well consistently on the mound, is also on his way to a formal roster spot with the Rattlers, perhaps as early as Friday.

Which, in turn, will mean someone has to be taken off the Wisconsin roster. Details, details...
