Did I just hear Melvin mention that Manzanillo throws 99mph along with a 92mph slider?
Not all the time, but he was hitting 99 in Helena.

I've searched this topic, the MiLB forum, & the ML forum. What's the latest on Brandon Kintzler? He's still listed on the 15-day DL on the Brewers' official roster. The latest information I can find is a note via his MLB.com player profile from May 13th:

Brewers reliever Brandon Kintzler remained unavailable to pitch Friday because of a sore right arm and said he expected to go on the 15-day disabled list.

...

Kintzler has not pitched since May 4, so the Brewers could backdate a DL stint to May 5. Manager Ron Roenicke said club officials would make a decision before Saturday's afternoon game against the Pirates. "Hopefully, it's not more than [another] week," Kintzler said. Kintzler has been dealing with discomfort in his right triceps and forearm. He threw a bullpen session on Monday, underwent an MRI on Tuesday that showed no structural damage, then threw another bullpen on Wednesday.

To be honest, I'd totally forgotten about this injury issue, and had just assumed Brandon was pitching with the Sounds. He's thrown a total of 15.2 IP this season; very concerning.

EDIT: Aha! Found some more recent info, via the Brewers' roster Injury Updates link --

Due back: Possibly late July

Injury: Right triceps tendonitis

Notes: Began throwing program in early July

The vaunted tendonitis diagnosis... code for a slight tear that they are trying to rehbab instead of going with TJ... at least in my opinion.

I like Parra's diagnosis... sprained elbow legament, on a throwing program with no ETA... another situation where surgery should just be done and move on. It's interesting that a sports related ankle sprain is usually a legament tear so while technically not an incorrect diagnosis it's like football teams calling ACL injuries "knee sprains" prior to the MRI results.

edit. BTW, "Aha!" made me think of that scene from Coming to America.

And That posted this in the Draft Forum, but since he was signed, I'll dup it here:

Baseball America on Chad Thompson, 27th round:

Orange Coast CC righthander Chad Thompson was a Top 200 prospect and a 17th-round pick out of high school in 2009. He missed all of last season while recovering from Tommy John surgery, and his velocity has been up and down this spring. Early in games, Thompson has flashed 90-93 mph heat and even topped out at 95, though even then he tended to get hit around. Other times he pitches at 84-87 or 87-90 mph. He clearly has arm strength and a huge 6-foot-8, 210-pound frame, but his delivery and arm action aren't pretty and he struggles with his control and command. He also throws a slow curveball and a slider that both rate as well below-average.

Sounds like the Brewers took a flyer on him recovering from TJ surgery well. High risk, high reward type. And fits with this year's draft theme of NBA sized pitchers.

Huntsville Press Release:

MONTGOMERY, Ala – The Milwaukee Brewers have made a pair of roster moves that will impact their Double-A affiliate Huntsville Stars prior to their start of a six-game series at Montgomery tonight. RHP Cody Scarpetta has been optioned to Huntsville from Milwaukee. RHP R.J. Seidel has been transferred to Brevard County.

Scarpetta was recalled to the Brewers on July 7, but did not pitch. He is 5-4 with a 4.40 ERA in 17 starts with Huntsville this season. Scarpetta was named the Southern League’s Pitcher of the Week for June 13-20. In 86 innings pitched, he’s struck out 79 batters. Scarpetta will start tonight for the Stars.

Seidel started game two of the double header for Huntsville on Monday, taking the loss. He pitched 3.0 innings, giving up two runs on four hits. He walked one and struck out three. He will return to the Manatees for the second time this season.

Seidel has gone from Brevard to Huntsville to Brevard to Huntsville to Brevard this season - MH.

Also, the Manatees appear to still be one under the roster limit of 25.

LHP Chase Wright was activated from Nashville's DL today in a paper move and has also been released (career stats major / minor). Wright spent 2.5 seasons in Milwaukee's system after being acquired from the Yankees' system for C / OF Eric Fryer, now with the big league Pirates.

In a separate room that makes room for Mat Gamel on the Sounds' roster, reliever Zack Segovia was placed on the 7-day DL retroactive to 7/12.

With that, the Sounds' roster is at the 24-man limit.

Huntsville Press Release:

MONTGOMERY, Ala – The Milwaukee Brewers have made a pair of roster moves that will impact their Double-A affiliate Huntsville Stars prior to their start of tonight’s series finale at Montgomery. RHP Jim Henderson has been promoted to Triple-A Nashville. Additionally, RHP R.J. Seidel has been promoted to Huntsville from Brevard County.

Henderson started the season with the Sounds before being sent to Huntsville on May 28. In 16 games with the Stars, he’s gone 3-1 with a 3.15 ERA. He’s converted five of five save opportunities and struck out 23 batters in 20 innings.

Seidel is returning to Huntsville after a brief stay with the Manatees. He started the season with the High-A team and is making his third appearance at the Double-A level. Seidel won his last start on July 17, going 5.2 innings allowing just one hit, one walk and striking out five.

With these moves, the Stars roster sits at the limit, 24 active.

LHP Mitch Stetter has been transferred from Maryvale to Nashville on his rehab assignment while remaining on the 15-day big league DL. Stetter is allowed a 30-day rehab period, which began on July 7th in Arizona. His presence on the Sounds' roster does not count against their team limit.

Nashville did re-assign C Patrick Arlis to their DL.

Should LHP Zach Braddock join Nashville today, a corresponding move will need to be made to free up a roster spot.
