Will the Brewers even bother with Jungmann and Bradley this year? It's pretty much a lost cause at this point. Hopefully one of them starts next year at AA and gets fast tracked.
Why rush them? Both should start out in Wisconsin and not be brought up unless they have performed and earned it. Yes both are high picks, both are guys who SHOULD move quickly but I much prefer they earn there way up like Braun, Weeks, Gallardo, and not just given high starting level, and promotions because of pick number. Both have issues that need to be address and worked on. I think there were people who wanted to see Arnett in AA by end of 09' season and well..... here he is pitching in Wisconson still at the end of 11' Can't count your chickens til they hatch, can't assume instant success based on college productivity and draft position. Let them get rolling in AFL, start them off in Wisconsin, get some pro ball under there feet and move them up as there production allows them.

As for this season, I wouldn't mind if they went and got a few innings in but both, Jungmann more so have throw a ton innings and don't need much more.

Posted this on Twitter but forgot to do it here...

RHP Mark Rogers goes to the 7-day DL in Brevard County. 1B/OF Chris Dennis activated from the Temporarily Inactive List to fill the spot.

In Wisconsin, 1B Cody Hawn returns from the DL and IF Mike Brownstein returns to the DL with an undisclosed injury. Hawn had been on the DL since July 21st.

IF Mike Brownstein returns to the DL with an undisclosed injury.
It's not a guarantee that Brownstein is out with a hand injury, but we pointed this out from yesterday's Rattlers broadcast --

With T. J. Mittelstaedt batting, Mike Brownstein picked off and caught stealing 2nd base, pitcher Justin Edwards to first baseman Geoffrey Klein to shortstop Ronny Gil.

Brownstein left after this 1/2 inning, the 5th. Chris noted he was shaking his hand as he departed. We'll follow over the next day or two.

As noted everywhere else in the world, first-round picks RHP Taylor Jungmann and LHP Jed Bradley signed late last night.
This was probably noted elsewhere on the forums here (though I didn't see it and was unaware of it), but Bradley went to Huntsville High. Cool, there's an eventual draw for you, Stars fans (along with Hunter Morris).

News from Huntsville:

RHP Kyle Heckathorn has been placed on the disabled list retroactive to August 16.

Heckathorn is currently 0-4 with a 7.18 ERA (36.1 IP / 29 ER) in seven starts with the Stars. The right-hander went 5-6 with a 3.95 ERA (79.2 IP / 35 ER) in 15 starts for the Brevard County Manatees (High-A), including one seven-inning complete game. Heckathorn was selected by Milwaukee in the supplemental first round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft.

With these moves, the Stars active roster is at 23, one below the AA limit.

RHP James to Huntsville from Nashville
Huntsville Stars

JACKSON, Miss. – The Milwaukee Brewers have made a roster move that will impact their Double-A affiliate Huntsville Stars prior to tonight’s series finale at Mississippi. RHP Justin James has been transferred to Huntsville from Triple-A Nashville.

James is 2-2 with a 4.68 ERA in 25 games for the Nashville Sounds. He was placed on the disabled list on July 19, retroactive to July 15. James completed a rehab assignment with the Arizona Brewers, pitching in three games. He gave up five hits in four innings of work. James will join the Stars for tomorrow’s series opener against Birmingham.

With these moves, the Stars active roster stays at 24 with four on the DL.

To make room, the less-than-scintillating Rolando Pascual was banished back to Maryvale, where the regular season is over. He's not happy.

The 22-year-old lefty Manny Ruiz is actually three months older than Pascual, who has been around since 2006.

And we still don't know how Nashville is getting away being one over the roster limit again tonight...

Nashville staff kind enough to tell us that Anderson Machado had three days to report after the transfer from Huntsville (or another way to view it, the Brewers had three days to "float" the transfer), so Machado won't formally become active until another move is made.

The Mets are on the clock...

#Brewers have agreed to terms with OF Juan Ortiz on a 2012 minor league contract. He's a 16 year-old OF from the Dominican Republic.

***

The 2012 contract becomes important, as it has been in past year's (the "future" season contract) in determining service time years such as 40-man roster protection.

Mass Haas, I thought those rules don't apply to foreigners. For instance, I thought the rules said that if a player is in a non-US summer league, it doesn't count against their years before needing to be protected from the Rule V draft.

Baseball America notes that as a formality with the completion of the Arizona League season, two pitchers who did not see action in 2011 (2008 19th round RHP Blake Billings, now 21, and 2010 36th round RHP R.J. Johnson, 19 years old) have been removed from the DL. Billings has only tossed one inning over the past two seasons.

Unless we have another Facebook / Twitter-type "find", we probably won't formally know more about the nature of their injuries until next spring's media guide comes out.

Nashville Media Notes:

JAMES REJOINS SOUNDS: Reliever Justin James has been added to the Nashville pitching staff today to fill the void created yesterday when Daniel Herrera was sent to the Mets as one of two players to be named later in the Francisco Rodriguez trade. James posted a 3.38 ERA (1 ER / 2.2 IP) in three relief outings for Double-A Huntsville after logging a brief rehab stint with the Brewers’ Arizona League affiliate in mid-August. He last pitched for the Sounds on July 10th before landing on the disabled list for the third time in 2011.
