Former Brewer Bill Hall released

I think the cancer stuff came in too when he was complaining about where he wanted to play. Wasn't he saying that's why he was struggling at the plate??? I could be wrong but I remember him saying he wanted to even be traded at one point. Help me out on this. Not that I think he's a cancer because of that.

Only reason I like him is because he can play everywhere, even pitch! But I don't think it would be a wise move to grab him.

Hall definitely did communicate through his agent at one point that he wanted to be traded. That was at a point a few years after his 35 HR year and the fans were already getting on his case at that point.

Hall is a fantastic athlete and part of me wants to see him back in Milwaukee to try and bring back some of that 2006 magic, but at this point in his career he's not much more than a platoon 2B or utility bench player. I think his defense would be an upgrade over Yuni and/or McGehee, but I question how much of an upgrade his bat would be. Still bringing in Hall wouldn't be the worst thing that happened to this bench.

In fairness to Hall, he had a great year as SS and was told it's still not your position, you are the guy that has to move. Oh and not only that, even though he'd always been an infielder, he was sent to the outfield, so that Ryan Braun could suck (defensively) as a third baseman. Then the following year they decide Braun is too horrible to keep in the infield and they put Hall back in the infield.

Rickie Weeks has improved defensively, but going into 2007 he had been pretty bad for a couple years and some thought he'd need to become an outfielder. Nevertheless, Hall was the guy who had to be moved to the OF.

I don't expect him to come back to the Brewers, and anyway, we now know that Josh Wilson > Bill Hall. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

I read that Hall is trying to hook on with the Yankees. Chris Dickerson may be out of a MLB job again.
Ironically we're pretty well set in the outfield now after it looked like CF might be a train wreck coming into this year.

If any team claimed him, we should find out today. I would think that to be highly unlikely based on his salary, which would make him a FA. Can't imagine teams will be beating down his door with an offer but who knows. I'm sure he'll latch on somewhere though.

I can't believe I'm going to say this, but I'm on board with bringing Bill Hall back for bench flexibility. I'm not a fan of the decisions he made after his big contract signing, which led to his "trade" away from Milwaukee. The bitter guy in me says that if he does indeed get signed by Milwaukee that he owes us one. However, the optimistic side of me says that he's an improvement to the bench, provided he can accept the role. I'll chose to be optimistic today.

I stand corrected...8 walks vs. 55 strikeouts in 158 pa to this point. I'm going back to bitter guy.

"And I'd prefer J.J. Hardy over the both of them."

Yes, but JJ would be a starter. This is Bill Hall for a bench/Util role. JJ also costs more than league minimum.

Well, I am just stating a fact. I realize it would take more than Betancourt to get Hardy from the Orioles. And we cleaned out a good portion of our minor league system to get a decent pitching staff.

But Bill Hall??!! Do we really want to watch him strike out every 2.2 ab's? (this includes with risp or on base)

Sorry just don't see the fascination with him.
