Can someone explain what the numbers after each player means? I see this every game and have no clue what they mean.

 

Each number stands for a position on the scorecard. 1 - P 2 - C 3 - 1B 4 - 2B 5 - 3B 6 - SS 7 - LF 8 - CF 9 - RF

The numbers correspond to their fielding positions. They are usually used in scoring the game. For example, you may have heard the term E-6 quite a bit this year...that's an error on the SS.

 

Pitcher = 1, C = 2, 1B = 3, 2B = 4, 3B = 5, SS = 6, LF = 7, CF = 8 & RF = 9.

If Marcum gets through Phillips, Votto and Bruce unscathed the first time around I feel pretty good about things until the 7th inning or so. A couple more runs before then and I'll feel very good.
