2011-06-01 Brewers (Marcum) at Reds (Leake) - [Brewers lose, 4-3]

The problem was that Loe just breezed through the first two hitters and just randomly plunked Phillips. RR couldn't have gotten anyone up in time to face Votta anyways. And honestly I wouldn't have been anymore comfortable with Axford out there.

Low had been cruising for the last couple weeks; RR couldn't have known he was just going to throw an awful pitch.

Gotta give credit to Votto and Bruce though; they just don't miss mistake pitches.

In a 1 run game you get Ax up and ready to throw at the first sign of trouble. He was coming in in the 9th anyways unless the BRewers scored a bunch of runs in the bottom of the 9th. RRR should not be pitching Loe against a lefty, especially one like VOtto who has hit Loe as well as he has.

That is what RRR is paid to do. Anticipate. Would you have Ax up every time? No. But in this situation you have him ready to go so you can avoid putting Loe in that situation.

As much as tonight is a stomach punch game.....sometimes you lose a 1 run game on the road against good teams no matter what.

Not every result is an indicator of how "something needs to change." This team is trending upward.

I agree with you on this game. You can dig to find what went wrong but in the end their stud bats out hit ours.

I don't blame Roenicke there

We should have a lefty in the pen so that after Loe hit Phillips, a lefty was ready to come in

Who's been pitching better, Loe or Estrada? I'm not sure on the numbers, but it seems as though it's been Estrada. I think Estrada pitched one inning either yesterday or the day before. Why couldn't RR have brought him in? I have zero confidence in Loe these days.

That is why a reliever should have been up right away just in case Votto came up.

We need a LOOGY. Baker did us the favor of stacking his two best left handed batters back to back and we have no way to make him pay.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

Can we get a decent LOOGY in the bullpen for situations like Votto/Bruce?

No point in using a loogy on Votto. He hits them just as well.

Don't be brainwashed by the small samples the TV guys bombard us with. His career OPS is over 100 points lower against lefties. Just like every other lefty, he doesn't hit left handed pitchers as well. Even a mediocre lefty is going to project to do better against Votto than Loe.

And this game absolutely sucked but the Brewers went 1-2 against a good team on the road. That's pretty much what we should expect.

we need to worry about our blown games and poor road play and stop worry about what the cards do at least till September.

This is really only the case if you are posting from the team plane right now.

It hasn't hurt us in any other games. But again, when you're facing

Votto, it better be a left you really like... I think his average is

better against lefties than righties.

Votto has a better average against lefties. I would have been more concerned with neutralizing Votto's power.

Of course over his career his BA is 30 points less vs LHers than vs RHers

This one just hurt. As an earlier poster said, we could have gotten rid of some serious demons with a series win here. But as said, on the road vs a good team, getting 1 of 3 is still ok. Just hurts that we could have had 2. We just need more insurance when facing a really good offensive team like the Reds!
