Roenicke isn't perfect, and really no manager will be, bit it's exhausting seeing this everyday in the IGTs. A lot of the things people get upset about are marginal at best. Really Kotsay versus Boggs filling in for a couple of games is a decision on the margins at best, and as noted plenty of the decisions he has to make are a choice between two bad options because of injuries and lack of depth.

 

This thread is a perfect illustration of this. Two pages of people calling Roenicke an idiot for not playing Hart, and it turns out Hart is sick. We get it, people don't like Yuni, Gomez and Roenicke, but let's at least be objectionable.

In that game correct it didn't and wouldn't make much of an impact, but over the course of a 162 game season it can make an impact. If you play that same situation out 162 times and make the right call more often than not that could be a difference of a win or two and vice versa.

Someone more tuned in to the stats community could probably help me out with the impact of a manager, but the point is that these decisions add up over the course of an entire season.

The more often the manager makes the right moves to maximize the teams personnel will help and the more often he makes the opposite decisions will more negatively impact the team.

Right but overall I believe RRR has made more good decisions than bad ones. Boggs did not produce when he was up here so he was left with little other options when injuries occured. Either way the difference from having A Boggs/Kotsay instead of a Hart/Morgan is a much bigger difference than whether or not who RRR puts in the lineup
