Impressions of Roenicke so far (part 1)

So because the club has succeeded in spite of Roenicke's poor management, he's a good manager? What does Roenicke have to do with the fact that the Brewers have two of the biggest sluggers in the game as well as three top notch starting pitchers, etc? What has he actually done to make you believe he is an intelligent manager, or even a competent one?

His defensive shifts have saved many base hits this year.
You're right, I should not have said he has no idea how to run a baseball team. I should have said he has almost no idea how to run a baseball team, and I don't see how anyone who followed tonight's game can possibly argue with that.

edit: typo

If we were looking to quantify games that RRR has lost, you might be able to pin this one on him.

4 hits off of Ryan Dempster. Yes the squeeze was a dumb decision, still not going to win many games if your offense gives you 4 hits.

Kotsay was hot, damnit. He had not one, but TWO hits the previous game! How could you possibly not start him in CF and bat him 2nd for a second consecutive game?

It's just too hilarious for me to get upset anymore.

I've officially had it with Roenicke. His decision making is a puzzling as Yost's was. Today's lineup was asking for a shutout. Nieves is one of the worst hitters I've had the displeasure of watching. Kotsay gets another start in CF based on a handful of successful at-bats ranging from years ago, while one of the best hitters on the team (and an MUCH better fielder) sits over a measly 9 at-bats against a pitcher. His love affair with Kameron Loe is equally as baffling.

Some of the blame for this team's shortcomings are on Melvin, but Roenicke has managed to misuse the roster to an extreme. The Brewers been successful this year in spite of of RR, certainly not because of him.

I can imagine what went through Ron's mind tonight...

"I've got it! Let's try a squeeze! I haven't done that for a week. And they'll never expect it, with a guy on base who can't run and a guy at the plate who can't bunt. It'll be brilliant!"

I do not understand his infatuation with Loe in the 8th. It's like he doesn't trust any other righty to pitch in that inning. Is Hawkins sleeping with RR's wife or something?

He's partially responsible for that. He chose to start Kotsay over Morgan, and wants Nieves on his roster instead of Kottaras.

An offense with Kotsay, Yuni, and Nieves starting. If Morgan, Lucroy and Counsell are starting it might have been different. Yeah, I know Wolf is forcing us to watch that useless load Nieves every five days, but days Wolf starts should mean Counsell at short and Morgan in center.

Not RR finest hour for sure; but 4 frickin hits against Demp is a joke.

He should have also had Braddock ready knowing that Quade had Fukodome and Pena on the bench.

Bad managing and an inept offense usually doesn't provide good results.

Perhaps they would have been able to pick up more than 4 hits if both Kotsay and Nieves were not in the lineup.

It's absolutely not Roenicke's fault that Rickie went 0 for 4, or that McGehee has fallen off a cliff. Those things are not under his control. Roenicke's job is to put the best team on the field, and he failed to do that tonight.

I think Roenicke has done a good job in making players happy for the most part. Macha's tough as nails attitude didn't work at all. He has also mixed the lineup well at times. As for the squeeze, I do not think it was a bad call. It just turned out bad because Wolf didn't get job done.

Now today's lineup was awful. Why is Kotsay in? Good question. McGehee 5th? Better question. Nieves in the majors is Melvin's issue. He must have something on Doug or something.

However, you still have to scratch out a run or two against these bums. That is what is unacceptable.

And to make decisions in game that most improve the team's chance of winning. He definitely did not do that tonight.

Its not like Lucroy has been lighting the world on fire either; he has been struggling big time. And the fact the Wolf just plain doesn't like Lucroy tied RR's hands on that one. Melvin really needs to help RR too and just get rid of the deadweight. Get rid of Nieves, Wilson, and Kotsay; bring up Kottaras, Green, and Gamel/Gindl.

Kotsay as the DH in Boston should be really fun.

This is why I hate playing the Cubs; they always seems to have just dumbfounding losses such as this.

I still don't understand how or why people think this. Roenicke said in the spring he wanted a defensive catcher on the team to back up Lucroy and the next day, we had Nieves. Melvin has had both Kottaras and Rivera on the team in the past so why wouldn't he bring them up again? Maybe it's Melvin's issue in that he's letting Roenicke dictate who should be on the team but Nieves is definitely on the team because Roenicke wants him to be.
This is Jack Burton in the Pork Chop Express, and I'm talkin' to whoever's listenin' out there.
