DVR - Atlanta Scientific 8300HD

valpocrewsader

Anyone have this DVR box from TWC? Anyone able to get the front Aux inputs to work? I did a little investigating online and it looks like this input was originally not activated but an OS patch/release back in 2006 turned that input on.

Looking at the remote and box, I can't see anything obvious for switching over to the front input.

All I know is that I swear the HDMI output looks like crap on that box (not to mention the delay while switching channels is maddening).

http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif Ughh, that's really disappointing to hear. I'm currently not using HDMI, but component video. I've been expecting HDMI (cable coming soon) to be an improvement. Hopefully my experience is different.

I don't use mine. What are you planning on connecting?

As a temporary quick hookup for VCR or camcorder, etc. My plasma doesn't have any easy-access side or front inputs ... when I saw that the DVR box had a composite A/V auxiliary hookup on the front, I thought I had just gained myself a front input.

First, a bump in case anyone else could tell me something about this box's front inputs.

Second, Russ, when you said that the HDMI output looks bad, I think I'm experiencing the same thing now that I've gone to an HDMI cable. For me, HD channels look pretty good, but many of the SD channels are extremely grainy. (Worse than component.) Same for you? From doing some reading online, the workaround seems to be using s-video/component/composite for SD stations and HDMI for only the HD stations. What a pain in the butt, extra cables, blah, blah. Any other thoughts/feedback on this?

The HD channels didn't look quite right to me with the HDMI. The colors looked over-saturated. For Instance, looking at the hundreds of little penguins on Planet Earth, I could make them out with component but they looked blotchy with HDMI. There was also a delay when I switched channels with HDMI.

I wanted to use HDMI so i could free up a component conenction for my wii but I just gave up and switch the connections when I need to. very annoying.

As for the aux connections, I read that they are often disabled. Not sure if it can be reversed.
