Severe storm suspends Rattlers and Chiefs
Chris Mehring/Wisconsin Timber Rattlers
PEORIA, IL – A storm with heavy rain, strong wind, and the threat of tornados forced the suspension of the first game of Wednesday’s doubleheader between the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and the Peoria Chiefs at O’Brien Field. The game will be resumed on Thursday at 5:00pm.

The Chiefs led the game 5-1 through 2-1/2 innings. Just after the Rattlers were retired to end the top of the third inning, the O’Brien Field grounds crew placed the tarp on the field. They got it on just in time.

The storm forced the fans in the stadium to be evacuated to the area below the stadium for about 20 minutes. After the all clear had been given, the managers, the umpires, and the Chiefs front office held a discussion. The rain was still falling, not as hard as it had been during the height of the storm, but the decision was made to suspend the game and pick it up on Thursday.

The game will restart at 5:00pm with Brooks Hall taking over on the mound for the Timber Rattlers. There will be a second seven inning game on Thursday as well. Jimmy Nelson will get the start for Wisconsin. Hayden Simpson is slated to start for the Chiefs.

Additionally, since there was a doubleheader scheduled on Wednesday night, the teams will need to make up the second game of the twinbill when Wisconsin returns to Peoria for a series from June 14-16.

Tune in for both games on Thursday on AM1280, WNAM or timberrattlers.com starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 4:45pm.

Final: @Brevard County 6, Palm Beach 3

Frank Longobardo/Brevard County Manatees

VIERA, Fla. -- Behind two home runs by Brock Kjeldgaard and a solid outing by Maverick Lasker, the Brevard County Manatees snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 6-3 win over the Palm Beach Cardinals, in front of 2,008 fans on Wednesday night at Space Coast Stadium.

The Manatees (16-31) got on the board first in the second inning, first with a one-out solo homer by Kjeldgaard to right field and then scored again on a RBI groundout by Mike Brownstein, to make it 2-0.

Brevard County would strike again in the third as Kentrail Davis RBI groundout scored Scooter Gennett and then Kjeldgaard deposited the first pitch he saw over the left field wall for a two-run home as the 'Tees took a 5-0 lead. It was the sixth time in Kjeldgaard's career - and fifth as a Manatee - that he homered twice in one game.

The Cardinals (18-39) would get two of those runs back in the fourth, but that would be all that Lasker would allow in his 5 1/3 innings of work. Lasker struck out five, walked two and allowed four hits en route to his first win of the season.

Brevard County would add one more in the seventh as Kentrail Davis tripled with two outs and was knocked in by Khris Davis to make it 6-2, in favor of the 'Tees.

The Manatees will now welcome the Jupiter Hammerheads into town for a four-game series beginning on Thursday at 7:05 p.m.

Kyle Heckathorn (3-4, 4.26) will get the start on the mound for Brevard County, while Jose Alvarez (5-2, 2.65) will take the hill for Jupiter.

Great to see Lasker bounce back and have a good start; you'll recall that in his three previous starts he pitched a total of three innings while allowing 12 runs and 12 walks. He threw 77 pitches and 47 strikes. Solid work by Corey Frerichs and Santo Manzanillo in relief; Frerichs went 1.2 perfect innings with two strikeouts, and Manzanillo allowed a run on three hits in two innings but struck out three and walked none. Manzanillo has a 27/10 K/BB in 23.2 IP. Gennett was 0-3 with a walk. Logan Schafer was 1-4.

Final: @Chattanooga 12, Huntsville 4

Wily Peralta gave up nine runs and ten hits in five innings. He's allowed 27 hits in 15.1 innings since having his an infected removed, which leads me to believe that his pitching ability was somehow contained within said molar. Hunter Morris clubbed a double and scored on Brandon Jones' two-run homer. Erik Komatsu went hitless in four at-bats but did draw a walk. Lee Haydel was 1-4.

Peralta spread out the damage against him pretty evenly, only keeping the Lookouts off the board in the 2nd. A lot of ground-ball singles, but plenty of extra-base liners and fly balls too.

Willy with a terrible outing tonight wonder if he healthy we need him and Rivas to start stepping up.

According to the Lookouts announcers Wily velocity was normal sat 94-95 mph for most of the night. He did get hit in the leg by a line drive in the 4th inning that had him shaken up but he had problems getting outs before that too.
