Jason Marquis

5-1 | 4.08

Marquis started Friday's 17-5 victory over the Orioles and didn't figure in the decision -- and he showed his displeasure at being lifted after four innings. Marquis was removed from the game with the Nationals leading 6-5.

Zack Greinke

2-1 | 6.43

Greinke surrendered a two-run homer to the opposing pitcher but said he was working with his best fastball on Friday. So count it as another step forward for a pitcher who is still only four starts removed from the DL.

I have a good feeling that is the game where Grienke puts up a dominant performance.

I just hope we don't put a Sunday afternoon lineup out there. Hopefully Counsell is starting at SS today; also please no Nieves today. Wouldn't be suprised to see Kotsay or Boggs in CF considering how awful Gomez has looked at the plate recently

Kudos as well to pretendastronaut...these threads rock!

How different is it to have a winning streak going...then have Greinke and Marcum up next. What a difference a year makes.

One vent today...anyone else notice the Padres accommodating the Classies by not only losing the first two games of the series, but playing an afternoon game today? Make our guys get in at 6AM, but Pujols and the boys will be home in time to do a little drunk driving and deliver some lectures on how the game should be played.

Melvin, where are you? Please tell Ronnie this isn't cool.

Gomez has been struggling, so I'm not as annoyed about this as I will be if he starts Kotsay over Morgan. I'm already bracing myself for that.

Haha................yep. I couldn't have said it any better.

After Kotsay's impressive 0-4 yesterday how could you sit him?

And Kotsay has a .357 average against Marquis. So you need to play him.

Someone forgot to tell Ron that Kotsay has only had 5 AB's against Marquis in the last 3 years and only 14 total AB's

So, what do you call two sweeps in a row? Has to be something witty to call it. Crazy to think a win today and 2-3 this weekend from SF would put the Brewers at 5 games over, going into that Cincinnati series.

You and I both know that hot and cold streaks are largely random. The guy has put up a .244/.340/.300/.640 this year and .253/.315/.368/.683 since 2007. You can't let a bat like that sit.

Seriously though, if RR thinks Boggs has less value than Kotsay, why is he even on the team? How is Boggs even in professional baseball?

Exactly Roenicke's reasoning. Does he not understand the concept of sample size?

Roenicke said Mark Kotsay was starting in center and Craig Counsell at short today because they've had success against Nats right-hander Jason Marquis. Kotsay is a .354 hitter (5-14) against him and Counsell a .324 hitter (11 for 34).

This is Jack Burton in the Pork Chop Express, and I'm talkin' to whoever's listenin' out there.

This is a game I would have kept Gomez in the lineup. Much better defense, obviously, plus I think Marquis may be a good match-up for him. Lucroy/Counsell/Gomez 6-8 sounds better to me. Hopefully that won't matter today, but it doesn't make it right.

Wednesday day game, so no TV, I presume?
Doesn't look like it. FSWisconsin tonight is rebroadcasting an Astros/Brewers game from April 22. Makes me miss the Squeeze Play.

Edit: Would that the Brewers could have results today similar to the last time they faced Jason Marquis. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

Well today is the first chance I've had to see Greinke pitch on TV (live in DC). Glad to see the Crew grab the first two games and looking to sweep, especially after experiencing the doubleheader debacle here at Nats Park earlier this year.

Well, looks like the ump might have a small strike zone today. 3-4 pitches of Grienke's walk could have been called strikes. They weren't no-doubters, but according to Gameday, they hit the corners.

But that's just mean, we lost 8-4 that day as part of the sweep in Washington! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

Hawing's edit: Oops, I forgot they'd faced Marquis in Washington this season.
