A Player To Be Named Later

UeckerAddict

Just saw a film with the title "A Player to Be Named Later" about the Brewers' 2001 AAA team in Indianapolis. Was curious if anyone else had seen it. It features players like Kyle Peterson, Allen Levrault, Micah Franklin, and Marco Scutaro (who I am stunned the Brewers decided to release). It was a pretty interesting watch, including seeing Alex Sanchez being told he was being sent up to the Brewers (his indifference and apathy seemed to confirm most rumors about his work ethic).

Just a random film my brother found at the video store, but worth a look if only for interest of the Brewers of the past.

I'd never heard of this, but I just queued it on Netflix.

I sometimes think about this movie when I see a player pull into the parking lot in their Hummer's & Ferrari's.

I got this DVD for Christmas last year and I thought it was very good. It was interesting to see some of the behind the scenes happenings and to look at baseball through the eyes of guys in the minor leagues - and their wives. When one player is cut and has to go to Mexico because he can't catch on with any other club, his wife seemed so sad (and scared). When she talks about possibly losing their home, it really gave me a new perspective about the game at that level.

I was depressed that the Crew did not see what they had in Scutaro. They had a cheap utility guy and let him go for nothing.

Other than that, I thought it was kind of sad the AAA vets seemed to be oblivious to the fact they were simply not good enough to play in the bigs. I mean, you're 32 and have a .305 OBP in AAA...and you're just hoping for a chance the next year?

I was browsing through the video store a year or two ago when I came across it, read the back of the case, and was surprised I hadn't heard of it.

I really like the movie...I've seen it a couple times, and it makes me happy to see Marco Scutaro having success in Oakland.
