2011-05-24 Nationals (Hernandez) at Brewers (Narveson) - [Brewers win, 7-6]

Huge win. Didn't look promising at first but thankfully the bullpen picked up Narvy. I never felt completely out of it because after all...we are playing the Nationals.

Let's get the best start of the season tomorrow from Zack to complete back-to-back sweeps. Oh does that sound nice!

Remember this game the next time we lose one we should have won. Great comeback boys - now take the Nats behind the woodshed tomorrow and pay them back for the April sweep. No mercy!
I think I'm just going to use this one to cancel out the first game of the season.

man it's nice getting a win from Narvy's spot in the rotation... it's almost like the #8 hitter getting on to turn over the line-up.

it would have been nice to use this 12 - 3 run to get to, like, 10 games over .500... but I'll take it all the same.

severe case of Crew Fever in May?

Awful decision to send Boggs, regardless of the result.

Don't think so.

Two perfect throws and he was still safe. The odds of getting one run there are much greater than getting one before recording another out.

he was out by three steps, but was lucky that ramos didn't handle the throw. It was a terrible decision to send him (how many guys score from first on a single?). I'm not complaining about the result, but boggs is probably out 7 or 8 times out of 10 there.

Which are roughly the sane chances that counsel comes up and gets a hit to score him if he stats at third.

there's a lot of things that can go wrong for the defense there. That's mainly what I'm trying to say. If the throw home would have been off the mark and Boggs is standing on 3rd, people would've flipped. I'd guess Boggs is safe there closer to 40% of the time rather than 20 or 30.

Also, what sargennm said. I'm not a big fan of Counsel's chances against a guy throwing 100 mph.

Another really, really nice win. Was thinking for a second it would be easy after Hart's bomb, but things turned quickly. It looked like Narveson kept trying the inside corner and missing. I do not think his stuff was especially bad, he just got too cute and dug himself a mess. Once again, the middle relief limited the damage and kept the Brewers in the game. Mitre and McClendon are very importat to this team's success, and although they have given up a few runs, their generally solid pitching helped the Crew win last Friday and again tonight. Can't say enough good things about some of the role players lately--Lucroy has been excellent and should start to get some dark horse all-star consideration. McGehee vs. 100 mph Hernandez was a favorable matchup and Casey came through with another big 8th inning hit. On the negative side, Axford got into a bit of a mess with 2 outs in the 9th--he's been walking a fine line lately.

Watched this one from the RF bleachers. Definitely my favorite place to watch a weeknight game when there is enough room to move around out there. The crowd was not really discouraged by the 6-3 deficit, everyone stuck around and was waiting for the Crew to mount their comeback. I also heard Uecker on the concourse and he shared the same optimism. 2-0 for the year, going to my final home game of the year Friday night, hopefully it will be another win. Big crowds expected this weekend and they should really be into it if the streak is still going.

Sorry to miss you, OWBC. I thought you might be in the terrace box, but good for you (though LF bleachers would have given you a better chance at a HR ball).

I'll agree on OWBC's observation that the crowd really didn't give up after the Nats' grand slam. I can't say I would have predicted the exact play that produced the go-ahead run, but I shrugged to myself after the GS and thought "plenty of time." The only time I was worried was when it took too many batters to get the final out in the 9th. I enjoyed the two loud guys behind us who were kind of singing along with New Noise (to the extent that is possible) in the 9th.

The hawing ticket is now 9-2 in games we've attended in 2011, and our season tickets are 10-2 overall. This is my personal Brewers crazy train and I am enjoying the present. Keep the pedal to the metal, Brewers.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

I seriously hate the Cardinals. That is all.

i strenuously agree.i really don't know how they are so good. lohse with a 2.something era COME ON!!!!!!!! carpenter is like 40 years old with mega-injury history. i thought berkman was washed up. theroit, punto, delasco. the only ones i fear on that team are pujols, holliday and jamie garcia. so frustrating. duncan is a soothsayer or something.

It should have been a double. Lucroy said in the post game show that he was thinking of trying for 2nd, but memories of his base running blunders the past month convinced him to stay planted at first. But I agree that the decision to send him was not a good one.

The crowd was very small. It was maybe 20k actually in the stadium (not their tickets sold count). I thought the crowd was into the game, we've just forgotten what a small crowd sounds like. Thinking about what I just wrote, it's awesome that a Tuesday night May game against a 2 time 100 loss team pulled in 20k. This is definitely baseball country.
