2011-05-18 Brewers (Gallardo) at Padres (Moseley) - [Brewers win, 5-2]

RR was the right choice given the short list of candidates. He's a rookie manager so it will take him some time to get the strategy right--as long as he is willing to learn from his mistakes. It is good that the players like him, which was especially important because of Macha.

Edit: Kotsay in CF tonight now looks brilliant!!!

Hart, Braun, and Fielder make up for Weeks' garbage at-bat last inning. Good stuff....and about time.

It's been awhile since i can remember the Brewers stringing together three hits like that on the road to the point it almost feels shocking.

Make that four straight now

I love the "Lets go Brewers LETS GO!" chant

Yeah thats awesome, if anyone is at the game please comment on Brewer fan attendance.

I went to a few Brewer games in San Diego two (maybe three?) years ago. The brewer fan attendance was really impressive both days, and I feel like for whatever reason it always is when I see them in Petco on TV.

The Mark Kotsay "Eff You Brewerfan.net" Parade soldiers on!

I still don't like him playing CF, especially at Petco, but i'm a Brewers fan first and foremost, so i'll gladly take some crow for complaining today. In fact, i'd love nothing more than to be wrong each time i complain about something because that means the player is doing something good.

That's why you keep Yo Ga in there.
You realize that the most likely outcomein an inning for even a bad pitcher is zero runs, don't you? That's kind of the point.

Wow, Hart destroyed that pitch and gets a triple. It's nice to not have a terrible batter in the two hole, huh?

And you realize the outcome in an at-bat for even a great hitter is an out, don't you?
I was responding to a comment that Yo giving up no runs was why he was allowed to pitch. In contrast, I did not use Yo making an out as evidence that letting him bat was a bad move. I made my comment before he finished his AB. For that reason, your comment does not seem to be relevant.

For the question about RR, the only things I've questioned with him this year are Yo bunting so much AND Loe being used nearly every day. Besides those, his moves seem like typical baseball moves and I'm glad he's not the incompetent Ken Macha. As for the baserunning errors, some of them are strategical mistakes, but most appear player mistakes. We get very bad reads on balls put in play.

Oh, I'm with ya. I had my crow medium-well. It was a little gamey.

I thought going into the season that the Brewers' interleague schedule was going to doom them. But it suddenly looks much, much better with 6 games against the Twins and the Reds with 6 against Cleveland. Of course things can change between now and then, but the Twins' are already playing for 2012 and the Indians will still be in contention at the very least.

It's 12:30 so I'm out of here. Catching a flight to Milwaukee on Friday and will be at the ballpark for my first game of the year on Friday night.

I would let Estrada finish the game. That's part of the reason I liked how Yost used his personnel, because he's the only Brewers manager that I recall would let his long men pitch 3-4 innings to finish a game. Macha loved using 3-5 guys to pitch three innings, Yost used 1 when it was strategically allowable (ie, no pinch hitting necessary)

I think his comment is perfectly relevant. You need to weigh the odds of Counsell getting a hit over Gallardo vs the odds Gallardo vs whoever else in the Brewers bullpen giving up a run or not. And also taking into account that it was only the top of the 6th inning, and that the Brewers had a one run lead, with only one out, and Rickie Weeks on deck. There are a number of factors. I think sticking with Gallardo was the right decision and it proved to work.
