wow, I was hoping RR would be doing my move--leaving Estrada in to finish it. Instead he's going to the pen and burning at least 3 relievers for tomorrow instead of the 1 I wanted.

Estrada threw 12 pitches, Hawkins threw 16, and hopefully Axford follows their lead (crosses fingers). If he does, no relievers are burned through and they should be available tomorrow (except maybe hawkins...not sure if they want to use him back to back). Either way, they've only used two relievers each of the past two days...the bullpen is in fine shape as of right now, and they didn't need to use Estrada for three innings.

get it done ax.

What the hell was RR doing there? Yo is way up in pitch count and the bases were loaded. He has no freaking idea how to manage a team...
Embarrassing. Here I thought someone from the Scioscia tree was suppose to be tactical and shrewd. I've seen NONE of that in Roenicke.

Scioscia is a buffoon and has been since day 1, so I don't know why you'd expect otherwise. His teams give away outs like it's going outta style.

Actually they have been the most successful team in baseball from a baserunning standpoint over the past 8 years or so. The only major issue anyone has with Scioscia is playing Mathis so much. Aggressive baserunning is great when you do it the right way, you have to keep the concept away from guys like Gomez though because they are too stupid to make good baseball decisions no matter what aspect of the game you are talking about.

Anybody else really concerned about Hawkins'? If the people thought the gun was hot today for Gallardo, what does that say about Hawkins only throwing 88-89? He needs that FB to be effective over the course of the season, he got really lucky with some pitches tonight. Is he done? Dead arm?

I was behind the Brewers dugout and about half the seats were empty and of those there about half were Brewer fans. 70-80% after the 7th inning. Loudest for Hart's triple and when Ax got 2 strikes on Hawpe and then got him. It wasn't long ago that you'd see maybe 15-20 fans at most at Qualcomm or Petco. The Pads in last place, a school night and cool and rainy earlier in the day kept their fans away and the first of only two games against Milwaukee all year helped the Brewer fan turnout. It was nice to see and hopefully appreciated by the team.

The thread comments sum it up pretty well. Yo made one mistake and otherwise gave up a bunt single and three hits that could have been handled. He did not have a lot of quick innings though. It was pretty clear that Braun and everyone else thought the Padres were conceding the run when he was on 3d. The out calls on Braun at home and Hart and Maybin at 2d all looked like they were blown. The IBB to Yuni was obviously the wrong call and couldn't have blown up worse for Black. Kotsay turned out to be all the offense the Brewers needed. Leaving Yo in for the 6th and bringing Hawkins in for the 8th were good decisions; I would not have wanted to push it for 2 innings with Estrada - he got a 2-0 popup, a fortunate out on the bases and then fell behind the next two guys before getting the last one so I think he was lucky to get through the 1 inning. Gomez is really bad at bunting. Ax seemed in control the whole way. Nice to take the season series from the Padres since the Brewers are clearly a much better team.

2 wins in row for me at Petco after 10 straight losses. Maybe they'll go 10 up after the 10 down.
