Yovani Gallardo

4-2 | 4.88

After five sub-par starts, Gallardo has put together two quality ones in a row. A 30-pitch second inning kept him from pitching deep Friday against the Pirates, but he limited the damage to two runs in six innings.

Dustin Moseley

1-5 | 3.40

Moseley, who has seen his ERA rise from 1.63 to 3.40 in his last two starts, allowed three runs in the first inning of his last start and needed 99 pitches to get through four innings. He's typically been more efficient than that in 2011.

This is Jack Burton in the Pork Chop Express, and I'm talkin' to whoever's listenin' out there.

Ok, I have been laying of RRR, but he just started Kotsay in CF in one of the biggest parks in the majors, but yet continues to start Yuni at SS. At least Gomez brings value on defense. If we were going to try and cover up one of our black holes on offense, wouldn't you start CC tonight?

I don't get it either. I get that Gomez has been scuffling at the plate and could use a day off but why do it at Petco (where defense is needed) and why use Kotsay over Boggs? I would love to hear Roenicke's thinking on this but he'll probably make up some dumb excuse again.

I just don't get it. Yeah, RRR loves Kotsay, but out of all nights, in that massive outfield, why tonight?

Although, today gives us probably the most favorable pitching matchup of the mini-road trip. I hope I'm not cursing the Brewers, but Moseley just isn't very good.

Here's what his excuse will be. "Just wanted to get Kots some at-bats. He'll be fine out there, he's an athlete. Gomey has really been struggling at the plate lately. He's been good at hitting good pitches, but he can't seem to lay off bad pitches lately. I know we're playing in a big park tonight, but Kots will help us a lot offensively. We feel that Boggs is valuable off the bench, so we didn't want to use him out there. Kots brings a lot more to the table."

On a positive note, the Pirates are up 5-0 on the Reds in the 8th, so the Brewers have a good chance to get back to 4 games under tonight.

As for the Kotsay situation, maybe there is something wrong with Gomez.

1, that's my guess on how many balls Kotsay won't get to that Gomez would have. 3, that's my guess on what most BFers will think Kotsay should have got to.
Well if it happens with 2 outs and the bases loaded it will cost us the game.

Also, Lucroy hitting 8, BEHIND Buttancourt, is very frustrating.

And Boggs? No its just Roenicke making sure god ol' Kotsay doesn't get out of his grove because then we'll get even worse offense from him!

Since TH rode RRR so much over Gomez in the two hole, now we need him to tell us why Kotsay is starting over Boggs. If you want to sit Gomez fine. I think he should be playing in the biggest park in the NL but whatever I can see an argument for it. But how the heck is Kotsay going to man CF in Petco? Seriously the guy is slow as molasses.

Good to see Gomez sat down. There comes a point where one's offense is so bad that no matter how good a player's defense is, it still doesn't make up for the pathetic bat.

So why is Betancourt playing? Counsell is a better player than Betancourt, Kotsay is a worse player than Gomez. Kotsay and Gomez have almost the exact offense over the year with a wOBA of .294 for Gomez and a wOBA of .296 for Kotsay.

Roenokie is most the blame for his love affair with Kotsay and stuff like playing him in center over Boggs, but i can't excuse Melvin from this either. It was Doug signing Kotsay that brought this to the team and he is the GM with the power to ask Running Ron why he's doing the things he does.

That said, my guess is Doug agrees with how Roenokie uses Kotsay and playing him in center over Boggs because if a roster spot is needed and an outfielder needs to go, Melvin without question will DFA Boggs and keep Kotsay because Doug has a soft spot for grizzled vets.

Didn't you realize that Lucroy is only hitting this well because he's been hitting in the 8th spot? Moving him up in the order would cause him to hit like crap? Sound reasoning by our manager.

Attack Yo!!! I think we win this game 3-1. This Padres team is pretty darn weak and even if we can't hit with ducks on the pond, we'll be able to scratch a few runs out.

Nice play by Yuni. What range!!
