Just so people can't claim the complaints are results-based, I hate using Loe there. Hawkins was warmed up and ready to go. Why does Roenicke think Loe is some shutdown reliever? It's mind-boggling.

Loe has really been bad this year, that's why it really makes no sense. An FIP of 4.25 isn't shut down reliever stuff

I'd be interested to know what the anti-bunting crowd thinks about Casey laying one down here. Obviously he won't, but IMO he obviously should.
The only thing I could think of is that they would like to see 23 LOB tonight.

Why did they bring in a lefty here? Makes no sense at all.

Casey has been much better hitting righties this year. He historically hits lefties better though, so I have no idea. That's the only reason I can think of.

If you know McGehee can put one down, sure its a good play. But bunting a guy over the 3B is hard-too soft the catcher grabs and throws to 3B, to hard and the pitcher can get it easily to 3B.

Plus, where is Melvin on this? Can't he tell Running Ron to stop the madness and remove Carlos from batting in a spot he's so mismatched for?

Melvin did an interview on WSSP maybe 5 days ago and they asked him about this. He said Gomez may not be the ideal #2 hitter but he scores a lot of runs. It really annoys me when he says crap like that, because he should be smarter.

The thing I worry about with McGehee getting a bunt down ithere iss that it could STILL end up as a double play. other than him ripping it somewhere that fly to center may well have been the best outcome the crew could have hoped for.

Yet, whenever you hear RR talk about Loe (especially after a bad performance), he says "but Loe has been really, really good this year...". The problem is aside from Game 1 of the season, he had 7 straight scoreless appearances to start the year. It's like RR remembering Gomez's great hitting approach in Spring Training and using it to justify his place in the lineup at the present time. I guess the moral of the story for the future, start the year like gangbusters, struggle all you want for a few months and still expect to see your name in the crucial spot in the batting order and also run out there as the 8th inning setup guy...nearly everyday.

Ok, now that actually makes some sense. McGehee is slow as molasses.

Someone earlier asked about the strike zone. As the announcers just mentioned it has been tight all night and fairly inconsistent on the outside and top portions of the zone. There have been several at bats where nearly identical pitches were called both a ball and a strike.

Molasses is looking for an apology.

In all seriousness, that inning ended in failure mostly because Casey couldn't do anything with his AB. Great play by Braun wasted.

Obvious things that stick out are Gomez costing many baserunners in the 2 hole and the 6-7 hitting black hole....Those 8 hitter numbers would look nice in the 2 slot (we only have 1 IBB from the 8 spot all season). Our 8 hitters are getting on 100+ points more than our 2 hitters.

Count me in the camp that is officially DONE with the Gomez hitting #2 experiment. I think he would be great in the number 8 spot. Let the pitchers bunt him around the basepaths when there isn't anyone in front of him.

Hart or Lucroy would both be better fits in that slot right now.
