2011-05-16 Brewers (Marcum) at Dodgers (Garland) - [Brewers win, 2-1]

For all his worthless ABs Gomez did save us a run that ended up being the difference.
99% of the problem is RR batting him 2nd. If RR recognized the blatantly obvious and batted his defensive specialist 8th, I think fans could better appreciate his positives.

I have argued with you before in the past (Mostly just for fun http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif), but this is 100% true, just bat him 8th already.

Try to find the offensive positives in 8 LOB's for him tonight. 2 spot, 4 spot, 8 spot...it's pathetic anyway you slice it. I'm still searching for positives...

That win felt good. Hopefully the players feel like the road troubles were just a blip on the radar and don't think too much about it from here on out.

Marcum is super fun to watch throw the baseball.

Gomez left 8 guys on the bases tonight but looked great in the field again. Something has to change in the batting order and now that Hart is looking like he is hitting his stride I don't see any reason to keep trotting Gomez out there.

Yuni is brutal. I can barely watch him play.

Hopefully Wolf can keep the win streak rolling!

What we learned in this game (again): Betancourt and Gomez's offense = bad. Gomez's defense and Marcum's pitching = very good.

If we learned that Betancourt had no business in the majors and Gomez should bat at the bottom of the order the team would be so much better.

In interleague play we should DH for Gomez and let Gallardo hit, on days he is pitching...

I want to say this is hyperbole, but it's really hard to argue otherwise just based on the eye test.

I would like to thank Carlos Gomez for saving that run earlier in the game.

And costing us the opportunity to add several others with the bat. Zing!

he did help create a run in the third when he stole second. so he's got that going for him. I want him out of the 2 hole as much as everyone else, but he did do some positive things tonight (and some very negative ones). Like someone just said, get him out of the 2 hole and it's a lot easier to appreciate him for what he is.

He had a little something to do with our first run too. Walked, stole second (which prevented a DP), then scored on a single. He definately brings something to the table, he just doesn't belong in the 2nd spot in the lineup. The way the rest of the team allows base runners, his defense is much needed in center to take a few away now and then.

That said, it'd sure be nice to have Morgan healthy. If you insert him for Gomez, the lineup card is fool-proof.

Great night out at the ballpark. Plenty of kids in our section...and Brewers fans too. Including a couple kids wearing Brewers hats because they play in the same little league Ryan Braun played in. How cool is that...LA kids becoming Brewers fans. My daughter was fired up to win again, although she informs me she's now 4-1...I forgot she was at the loss to the Angels last year.

My impressions: Shaun Marcum owns the black. So effortless. He makes guys look silly up there. We actually won a game with defense...that's a rarity. Gomez' catch vs. Carroll's miscue on Prince's smash was the difference. Corey had a nice play too...as did Gibbons in LF on Rickie's belt.

Ryan Braun's enthusiasm is infectious. The guy is the mayor out here with everyone on the field before the game. The fist pump after Gomez' catch and the hustle double late...he is this generations' Robin Yount. Same with Rickie...I love those guys.

Fun night...back at it tomorrow!

Hey guys we won this game. Seemed like a lot of negative talk from the posts I scanned. Oh well, I guess people are going to tend to write what they disagree with more than what they agree with. Let's be happy, we are on a winning streak and we have some really good starting pitching right now!

Gomez sniffed his bat. Not sure what to think about that.

When you barley make contact with a ball and the ball skids across the top of the bat like that, it burns the bat and makes it smell like burning wood. Kind of one of those cool smells you think about when you are a baseball player or played baseball. You will see several players do that.

I saw the guy with the T-Rats hat...he was a couple sections over. Nice hat. Plenty of Brewers fans there last night.

It's raining in LA right now. That's about as rare as a walk to Yuni. Not hard enough to call the game, but it may be wet out there tonight. Also not hard enough to start demanding a roof for Dodger Stadium!

One funny anecdote from last night...when Gomez was up with the bases loaded, this Dad says to his kid, "What do you think he does here?" Young kid answers "Home Run". I chime in that I think he strikes out on a pitch that bounces 10 feet in front of home plate. Of course he Ks on 3 straight...guy laughs and says..."You were wrong, it only bounced three feet in front of the plate."

Bingo. Most of the dislike for Gomez this year revolves around him hitting #2.

But is it Runnin' Ron proof.

Melvin did an interview on WSSP maybe 5 days ago and they asked him

about this. He said Gomez may not be the ideal #2 hitter but he scores a

lot of runs. It really annoys me when he says crap like that, because

he should be smarter.

Anybody who can get on base will score runs in front of Braun and Fielder. That is like giving McGehee a lot of credit for getting a lot of RBI's behind Braun and Fielder. We heard the same crap a few years ago when somebody asked Melvin about Weeks batting lead-off.(or it might have been Yost.)

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.
