Travis Hafner...

Recommended Posts

Anybody signed or traded to play 1B would have to outperform what Gamel would be expected to do. It doesn't look like Hafner has played in the field since 2007. No thanks.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

I would rather try and get Dye to come out of retirement than have Hafner at 1B.
Actually Troy Glaus makes more sense than Dye among the recently "retired". Jorge Cantu wouldn't be a bad FA pick too. I like the idea of a veteran RH bat to "platoon" with Gamel and provide a boost off the bench.

I'm on board with anything that allows the financial flexibility to allow for the re-signing of Greinke and/or Marcum. This to me means putting Gamel into the lineup at 1B, with a relatively inexpensive option as a backup, in the event he doesn't hit (unlikely) or field (possibly) enough to warrant the starting gig.

Players like Hafner I will respectfully pass on.

WTP, I was just about to post basically the same thing until I read your post. It had not been mentioned in the others. Gamel should be given the first base job if he performs as we expect at AAA this year. I'll be really ticked if we throw money at a first baseman and watch either of Greinke or Marcum walk a year later.
