2011-05-15 Pirates (Correia) at Brewers (Greinke) - 1:10 PM CDT [Brewers win, 9-6]

Betancourt's OBP is currently .252, remind me why he hits in front of Lucroy? Or anyone besides Nieves for that matter?

Well a lineup is not made by just putting guys in order of their average. You spread people out for speed and power reasons. You are not just going to stick the worst couple guys and the pitcher at the bottom of the lineup.

Umm please elaborate, Im not sure you have any idea what you are talking about. There have been studies on this in the book, here is the summary:

Your three best hitters should bat somewhere in the 1, 2 and 4 slots. Your fourth and fifth best hitters should occupy the 3 and 5 slots. 1 and 2 guys should walk more often. Then order in decreasing skill from 6-9.

But you do because of this book? I didn't bother looking at the link. But managers assemble a lineup based on each players specific skills that allows them to move runners, steal bases, etc. The brewers lineup and every lineup follow the basic stuff that you listed and then you put the last 3 in an order of what you are looking to do. Each manager has a different idea on what he wants to do with his lineup. With the lineup the brewers have, Lucroy hitting 8th is not that crazy of an idea. He can still get on and have the pitcher bunt him over. Lineup is then turned over. Sounds good to me.

Loe warming up. Really, Ron?

He only threw 5 pitches yesterday, so he's probably the most rested out of everyone in the bullpen (besides Ax. and Mitre I guess).

I think they might keep Estrada in, probably depends on the situation when the 9 spot comes up.

edit: forgot about dillard getting called up.

If every batter in the lineup got the same number of PA per game, you would probably be right. But every bump up in batting order position is about 18extra AB over a full season. Gomez will get an extra 100 AB betting 2nd instead of 8th. I don't care how fast he is, that is a losing strategy.

Wow, if you aren't even going to try than there's really no sense in responding to your posts anymore. You already know everything.

Dang...I'd like to see Dillard. I hope he gets a few chances to get some work before getting sent back down. I'm interested to see if his new delivery will work in the bigs. Can't complain too much though if we get the sweep!

Two pretty good pitches by Axford to force those flares into right, but Weeks shading over the middle a bit on RHB shifts makes those tough plays.

I'm just glad to get through that Doumit AB with the ball in the yard. Had flashbacks to the last year or two.

I saw the two bloops but missed the Alvarez single. Was it hit hard? Giving up runs is never a good thing but those last two hits were garbage, so it's not too concerning.
