The first time through the order we took some pitches and worked the count a little and got some guys on base. Since then we have been getting ourselves out early in the count. We seem to be too immature, or too stupid to recognize what works and what doesn't.
Every batter has a great approach when they get a hit and a bad one when they don't. The Brewers are getting some pitches to hit. They are just hitting a bunch of weak ground balls.

Outside of those gift runs yesterday, they have been beyond pathetic. At this point there is nothing really anyone on the coaching staff can do. They are taking hittable pitches and popping up or pounding them into the ground.

In the last 16 games (going back to after the Phillies series), the opposing starters have averaged 6.9 innings per start.

That is absolutely pathetic. Their approach is total garbage. Sometimes its not the pitchers, its the hitters.

The average is like 6-1/3. I don't see how not quite two extra outs proves their "approach" has been bad. It just suggests they aren't hitting, which we already knew.

Unless my numbers are off its a shade under 7. Not hitting is one thing, but the Brewers have been completely incapable of working counts and raising the pitch counts of opposing pitchers. When you don't walk and swing at everything the opposing pitchers will go deep into games which is exactly what an average of 7 innings per start would suggest.

with the bases loaded, it's really nice to have Gomez on 1st as the tying run

batting him 8th pays off yet again

I tried to log in on my iPad. Turns out it was an etch-a-sketch and I don't own an iPad. Also, I'm out of vodka.

I'm saying the league average is 6-1/3. If a pitcher isn't giving up base runners, of course they are going to get not-quite 2 extra outs. You need to look at pitches/PA to see if they are going deep in the count (which isn't always a recipe for success anyway).

Counsell over Hart? Really?

Where is Corey Hart? This is horrible. Unless Roenicke was posturing when he said Hart is healthy, this makes me believe he is completely clueless.

Here's to hoping Counsell makes me sound silly.

Oh I gotcha. You're right it probably isn't the best measure, but I would bet that pitches/PA the Brewers have been under the league average in that same stretch.

Why so Hart can wiff at 3 straight sliders? Hart is multiple games away from being effective at the plate.

No, because Hart is far more likely to clear the bases than Counsell. By sending Counsell up, the Brewers are far more likely to also need a hit from Weeks. The odds of Hart clearing the bases are far greater than the odds of Counsell Single + Weeks hit.
