Totally unlikely deal with the Mets

mlbtraderumors.com has David Wright as a trade candidate. So I say we try and fix the whole left side of our infield and trade for both Wright and Reyes. We could offer them something like Mcgee, Narveson or Estrada and one of out high A pitchers. Plus if they want a SS back give them Betancourt. This iwould give them a ton of savings and a cheap 3rd baseman and pitcher for 3 more years plus a prospect. Could they get a better deal somewhere else? Possibility but this would keep them from totally falling off while they rebuild .

I would trade McGehee plus Rivas & Rogers and maybe someone else for David Wright. Wright is signed through the 2012 season with a team option for 2013. I'd forget about Reyes and go after Wright (not that I think it is likely, but he'd be a huge upgrade for the Brewers)

How about in bizzaro fantasy world the Brewers trade; McGehee, Rogers, Gennett, Betancourt, Gomez, and Gindl for Beltran, Reyes, Wright, and Rodriguez. Brewers go under financially in this scenario also.

Mets would hang up as soon as they heard doug's voice.

Really though, we have 0 chance of getting reyes or wright, especially when teams with decent farm systems are looking for a short stop (giants, angels).

Shoot, I'll play along. Mark Rogers, Manny Parra, Carlos Gomez and Yuniesky for Wright and Reyes.

Realistically, to get Wright and Reyes, you're starting with Braun and Prince, probably throwing in one of Yo, Greinke or Marcum. So, absolutely not.

I think that's a bit harsh. The Mets are pretty much looking to break things up and start fresh, and Reyes is a free agent to be while Wright will make $45 million from now until the end of 2013. Not a bad contract, but not really a good one.

Still, we simply don't have a package we could put together for them realistically. If we didn't make the Greinke trade, that package plus one more pitching prospect might be the market price for Reyes+Wright.

It might work if the Brewers took on Bobby Bonilla's contract and the Mets took Brent Fullwood.

While I hardly view McGehee or Betancourt as total disasters (pardon me, but while that seems to amount to a contrarian point of view on this board, that's just how I feel about it), there's still really no doubt that Wright & Reyes would be strong upgrades. I'm not totally opposed to this idea. But being realistic, I'm not sure the Brewers have the pieces they'd be willing to part with to make it happen.

Barring us trading someone I don't want to trade (Braun, Greinke, Marcum, Yo, Weeks), I don't see any way we would be able to swing a blockbuster trade which would net both Wright and Reyes. However, here are two thoughts on the players:

-Unless things really turn around quickly this season, I certainly don't want to trade what's left of our farm system for a 1/2 year rental of Reyes this season. However, he is a possibility after the season when he's a free agent, and we are no longer paying Prince Fielder. We don't have any SS in our system, so Reyes would definitely help us there for a few years, and it's possible we could afford him monetarily without having to give up any minor league talent (okay, maybe a draft pick).

-I guess the closest I could come to landing Wright would be a deal centered around McGehee & Hart, allowing us to bring Gamel up to play RF and get his feet wet before his transition to 1B next season. In addition to filling Wright's spot at 3B with a decent, inexpensive player in McGehee, this would allow the Mets to trade Beltran, who I believe is a FA after the season, and have an All-Star to replace him in RF. They would save a lot of money, and still have some talented players on the field (McGehee, Hart and whoever they get for Beltran).

"The most successful (people) know that performance over the long haul is what counts. If you can seize the day, great. But never forget that there are days yet to come."
