a lot of athletes that suffer head injuries or use performance enhancers that are dying in very tragic ways.

While I am sure they cannot prevent most head injuries, taking performance enhancers is a controllable piece. First thing I thought of when I heard the double murder/suicide investigation was steroids. Although, what I know about the effects of steroids is what I have just learned recently. But, that is what popped into my mind.

Well -- my point is really, that for retired wrestlers/FB players out there that might have existing head injuries/sterroid issues, people should probably be more proactive in getting these people help/medication so these sort of things do not happen more and more often.

I do agree with you 100%. I guess I am more disgusted with the fact that wrestlers are allowed to take steroids. If they take the steroids they should be aware of the consequences that come with them. Most are aware of the problems that performance enhancers cause. If they are not going to get the medical help they need after they stop using/during use. Perhaps they need to rethink using them.

But I do agree. Help and medication needs to be looked into if these trends continue.

It's really shocking to hear about this.

I've been a wrestling fan since watching guys like Randy Savage and Hulk Hogan as a kid in the late '80s...Chris Benoit was never my favorite, but I always enjoyed watching him. He seemed like a straight headed guy, and was apparently very repsected throughout his industry. I never met the guy or anything like that, but it's really hard to hear about his demise like this. I wish if he really had such heavy personal issues that he had sought help instead of taking the lives of his family and himself. Just a really sad story.

Here's one website with a listing of wrestlers who have passed away.

My sources tell me that Chris Benoit and his wife got into a domestic dispute and he accidentially killed her. Chris then spent the next day with his son (possibly even watching the pay per view that he cancelled on) and then later suffocated his son to death later that night. Reason being was that he did not want his son to grow up motherless and also live with the fact that his father was a murderer. Chris then hung himself the next day in his weight room.

Again, I can't 100 percent confirm this but it makes sense. Very sick.

Another report on Tmz.com says was that his wife was found bound by her hands and feet with blood underneath her head as well. Steriods and prescription drugs were also found at the scene.

In my opinion, this isn't the thread to get into yet another debate about what steroids do or do not do to someone. Using any drug at all (even aspirin or ben-gay (as we saw a couple weeks ago)) can have serious side effects in certain people.

Plus, how is it "roid rage" when he killed his wife a day before he killed his son, then killed himself a day after that? That's hardly a quick burst of rage. Something much less easy to explain was going on there, and I think it trivializes the situation if people are trying to use what happened to ride their various hobby horses.

I'm just saying it's too soon and too easy to say "steroids made him do it". I guess that's how the media works nowadays though.

I don't think it's that much of a stretch to say that the wrestling community; fans, investors, and especially the WWE itself, has blood on their hands, and even worse, a child's blood.

I didn't think it was possible for myself to think any less of them, but today I do. It is appalling and sickening that the industry allows such sickness and abuse to go by and in many cases, is even covered up.

I can only hope this and everything else that has gone on leads to a quick and permanent removal of the entire "sport". They can join puppy mills on my very short list of things I'd ban in a millisecond in my mythical kingdom.

In my opinion, for whats it worth, i really don't think we should be discussing the "what if's" of what happened, or making any assumptions as to what happened, until we know every detail for sure. Right now, those who are wrestling fans, and those who are not, should focus on the loss of life of Chris Benoit's wife and son, mourn that and appreciate the lives we have.

Lets save the its steroids fault, or its the WWF's fault stuff for later. We'll have plenty of time to worry about it then. Either way though, im sure we can agree that whatever Chris Benoit did, for whatever reason is just sick and tragic.

i remember him from his ecw days and the whole does seem weird. I guess it shows that we think we know these athletes but in reality have no idea except for what they do on the field.

You can't really ignore his death, while you can't really celebrate his life at this point. My guess is that he gets a moment of silence and they move on.

The whole thing just feels so surreal to me. As many people around the internet have mentioned, Chris Benoit was the very last pro wrestler I would have expected to do this, outside of maybe Mick Foley or Shawn Michaels.

My thoughts exactly. Benoit would be one of the last along with HBK and Foley that I would ever in a million years think could do something this crazy.

From what I've read, the plan for both SmackDown and ECW (which are both taped tonight) is just to let people know what happened and just run non-gimmick/storyline matches. So basically it'll probably be whichever guys are composed enough to wrestle.

And this does feel very surreal to me. It is one of those things where you see this type of thing in the news far too often, but when it is someone that as a fan I've actually watched and have seen in person, that is like "wow."
