2011-05-04 Brewers (Greinke) at Braves (Hudson) - Game 2 - 7:00ish PM CDT [Brewers lose, 8-0]

My expectations were neither high nor low coming into this game, so I'm really not that upset by this outing. That said, regardless of how the season goes from here on out (better, worse, more of the same) it's hard to imagine that, from a fans perspective, it could get emotionally lower. I always wonder how players feel in stretches like this.

We knew going in that Greinke's control probably wasn't all the way there (at least judging from his rehab starts), but the defensive WOAHs only compound the problem. Seems like Greinke's hitting a bit of a wall this inning, too, with the velocity dipping. 30 pitch first inning really did him in.

Well, that was not a dribbler.

One of those times in my life I'm not proud of being right.

No way I would call it a good outing but I'm not sure that was exactly a "shelling". He had to get 14.65 outs in 4 IP and gave up 4 earned runs with 6 SO. Other than the HR, I was actually quite happy with the outing.

The term average should indicate it's not that hard.

Sure, it's not hard for those on the top half. The bottom half would disagree with you though.

I know but I would think that we could have a decent defense at some point in my lifetime. I seriously cannot remember the last time we had an above average defensive team.

Gotta love our free swingers...I see even Melvin is getting worried with his quote in between games:

"We've got to start getting some wins on the board," said Melvin. "It's a combination of a lot of things right now. But I'm not in a panic mode or anything. We need to start putting it together."

It's very comforting to know that despite a likely 5 game losing streak and our two "aces" getting shelled in the last few games we are able to follow up with guys like Marcum and Wolf.

Barring injuries, this team is going to win plenty of games this year. Hopefully they win enough.

Is there any team that swings and misses more then the Brewers? I'm sure their are but man this is a pathetic display. We look like we have no plan at all against Hudson. Other then Weeks nobody has even hit the ball hard.

Gotta have good defensive players to have a good defense. When Gomez is in the lineup, he's the only plus defender among the other guys out there.

Yup, anytime you have to get 0.65 outs in any inning, it's tough...in all seriousness, I'm glad this is a mediocre at best division with nobody really off to a good start - at least it will keep this inconsistent team relevant through the summer.

That's what I mean. Why don't we start getting a few guys that play great defense but only average or even a little below average defense. Or even guys with average defense and average offense. I'm sick of the below average defense, average offense that we think is great offense guys.

I actually laughed out loud at this one, since I'm not sure if you are serious or not with your decimals. If it was a tongue-in-cheek estimation, well done. If you are using some kind of tango tiger blooded formula to figure it out I'm not sure what to think.

Hey, I wasn't sure what to call the CI! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I just assumed it as a neutral AB. In reality, it probably would have been 1-2, so according to this:

... .76 outs were stolen from Greinke.

I think you meant average or below average offense.

Answer is we had 2 guys like that......Cain and Escobar.....

Yeah my bad. We still have Gomez who is better on defense than Cain. And we had to give up both to get Greinke which is fine by me, although one can argue that Escobar wasn't actually above average defensively last year. I would basically like to see Casey and Corey replaced for better D, definitely Casey. I'd replace Corey because I've always thought he was overrated. Hopefully Gamel is a great defensive first baseman next year.

Wish we weren't burning through the bullpen in a blowout...

7th inning, 2 outs... groundball just to the right of 2B.... Betancourt looked insanely slow. Is that just me seeing what I expect to see?
