WILD THING ALAN WILLIAMS SIGNED BY MILWAUKEE BREWERS

Frontier League Press Release

The Washington (PA) Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, today announced that left-handed pitcher Alan Williams signed with the Milwaukee Brewers organization.

It's funny. I had never heard of Washington, PA before today, but now I've seen it mentioned twice in a couple hours. Chalk another one up to the Baader-Meinhof phenomenon.

Update from the Stars --

Huntsville, AL – The Milwaukee Brewers have made a few roster moves that will impact their Double-A affiliate Huntsville Stars prior to tonight’s game against the Tennessee Smokies. Catcher Anderson de la Rosa has been placed on the disabled list, retroactive to May 30. Catcher Dayton Buller has been transferred from Triple-A Nashville to Huntsville.

In 26 games with the Stars, de la Rosa is batting .258 (16-62) with four doubles, a triple and three home runs. He’s batted in 11 runs and walked seven times. De la Rosa spent part of the 2010 season with the Stars, going 20-for-95 (.211) in 28 games.

Buller started the season with the Stars, but was transferred to Nashville on May 17, the same day he was activated from the seven-day disabled list. Buller appeared in four games for the Sounds, going 3-for-10 with two doubles. He walked four times and struck out twice.

With these moves, the Stars active roster sits at 24, the Southern League limit.

At Nashville, veteran infielder Anderson Machado has been activated from the disabled list.

To make room, Milwaukee-born corner infielder Chris Nowak (Waukesha North High School) was released. The 28-year-old was signed last July by the Brewers after his release from the Rays' organization (career stats). We wish Chris well.

As being discussed here on the Major League Forum, OF Jeremy Reed has been traded to Minnesota for cash considerations, where Reed will provide the Twins with some AAA OF depth. The Nashville outfield was indeed crowded, and Reed had underperformed all season.

TRANSACTIONS:

RHP Damon Krestalude has been placed on the DL retroactive to June 2

Nice to see the tag to the back of the neck didn't sideline Mittelstaedt longer.

From the Stars:

Huntsville, AL – The Milwaukee Brewers have made a pair of roster moves that will impact their Double-A affiliate Huntsville Stars prior to the start of tonight’s series opener at Mobile. Infielder Zelous Wheeler has been transferred from Huntsville to Triple-A Nashville. Infielder Matt Cline has been activated from the disabled list.

Wheeler started the season with the Sounds, but was placed on the disabled list after only two games. He was transferred to Huntsville on May 30 and went 5-for-18 (.278) with two doubles and a RBI in five games with the Stars.

Cline was placed on the disabled list on May 30, retroactive to May 28. In 37 games this season, the infielder is batting .209 (23-110) with seven extra-base hits and four RBI.

At Brevard County, CF D'Vontrey Richardson comes off the DL after a mercifully short stint, and C Mike Roberts goes on it.

It's really nice of backup catchers to time their injuries so conveniently.

Nashville Media Notes:

To make room for Zelous Wheeler, veteran infielder Anderson Machado was placed on the temporary inactive list. He is not with the Sounds on their current road trip.

Mike McClendon is expected to join Nashville by Monday. A counter move will be needed to add him to the roster.

To make room for Mike McClendon on the Nashville roster, reliever Robert Hinton was yo-yo'd back down to Huntsville. That AA assignment will become official tomorrow, so the Stars will need to make a corresponding roster move then.

Speaking of Huntsville, two of their catchers have swapped places, with Anderson De La Rosa coming off the disabled list, and Dayton Buller going on. At this point, there's no real way of telling if legitimate injuries are at play here, or whether it's more creative roster placeholding and juggling.

To make room for Robert Hinton at Huntsville, RH reliever Darren Byrd has been placed on the Stars' DL, retroactive to 6/5. As often the case, no word on the nature or severity of any injury.

This will close our transaction thread, as we'll use the draft timeline to kick off a new one, a little more manageable in length.
