2011-05-02 Brewers (Gallardo) at Braves (Jurrjens) - 6:10 PM CDT [Brewers lose, 6-2]

Yep, all hitting and no D does not make a playoff team. Get Fielder and YuBet off of this team and sub them for average hitting and average defense and we would probably gain several wins. I know, "but Fielder is an offensive God". Yeah, but his defense can be just as "offensive"...

Yo is having trouble, but a lot of times when you are having issues of confidence, something like letting that popup drop is exactly the straw that will break your back on a given day. This is now three days in a row where a single pitch/chance has proved pivotal, even if not determinative.

All the baserunners will eventually equal runs. He was able work around a few baserunners early (double play) but eventually it all piled together into runs.
This is Jack Burton in the Pork Chop Express, and I'm talkin' to whoever's listenin' out there.

We have 1 comeback win this year, although it was only a 1 run comeback. Chance of winning this game = 1%

What you don't expect us to tie it and lose in the 10th? I totally do.

I tried to log in on my iPad. Turns out it was an etch-a-sketch and I don't own an iPad. Also, I'm out of vodka.

Should we get rid of Braun as well?

My pick for disappointing player of the year is looking correct so far. Gallardo is so frustrating. Greinke can't get here soon enough.

It would also be nice if this so-called offensive juggernaut of a team could score some runs now and again.

I will not be surprised in the least to see Gallardo hit the 15 day DL tomorrow. Something is either physically wrong, or the guy is going the Manny Parra head case route, I hope it's just the former.

This may be a matter of perception, but I just don't recall this offense putting up (m)any crooked numbers this year. A 2 hitter with a .280-ish OBP, coupled with a 5-8 that's more or less been........awful, and the chance for 3-4-5 run innings just really seems to not be there. I'd guess having even a .335 OBP guy in the 2 spot would give Braun and Fielder another 5-6 RBI between the 2 of them.

Hate to say it but I thought about Manny Parra too today when watching Gallardo struggle so mightily.

strike outs have been down and BABIP is low right now at .275. Results haven't been there but he's better than his .233 avg right now. I wouldn't bat him 2nd but he's doing far from 'nothing'

You didn't keep a straight face while typing that did you? .277 OBP and a .587 OPS is about as close to nothing as you can get and still be in the starting lineup let alone the 2 hole.

you're right, Kotsay and Almonte are better options in CF, give me a break, Atlanta has 3 guys hitting .236 or under right now and they aren't half the defender Gomez is

You're right Gomez is great and there isn't a guy named Nyjer Morgan on the bench. Nice Atlanta has... argument. You must be refering to Dan Uggla (All Star), Freddie Freeman (Top 10 propspect in baseball), and Alex Gonzalez right? I forgot those 3 play horrible defense in CF...oh wait none of them play in the outfield. Coooome On Man.

I am right because Nyjer Morgan hasn't been on the bench for weeks! What better option is there in CF right now!?!

When the team is an "offensive juggernaut" because there are a few excellent hitters surrounded by the likes of Gomez, Betancourt, and Nieves (all with career OBP under .300), runs will only come in bunches, and only when the big boys are hitting dingers. People were excited for Roenicke's aggressive baserunning, small ball style (myself included) but the Brewers current lineup is not even close to being able to execute that, and a large part of that is the way Roenicke puts it together.

Yo has been very good for four seasons. It seems doubtful that he's suddenly a "head case," whatever that means. He's just not pitching well. It happens.
Its more likely he is toast physically than a mental head case. He could have just lost it, he wouldnt be the first.

But you can see he's not attacking hitters as he has in the past. I've seen more 4-pitch walks from him this year than in all year's combined, it seems. The problem is he pitches like a guy whose fastball tops out at 87 as opposed to 94-95 mph.

I wouldn't say he has been very good for 4 seasons, 2 and a half seasons, yeah. He missed almost an entire year and last year from the all star break on his ERA was almost 6. Now this year, it is over 6. I understand that pitchers have slumps, but when your ace is posting a 6 ERA over his last 20 starts or so, it's something more than just bad luck or a slump, in my opinion.

I agree, he tries to nibble. He shouldn't need a guy who needs pin point command to get by. I remember outings last year and the year before where Yo didn't have his best stuff, but he kept battling, and kept them in the game. This year he just implodes, and seems almost scared to throw the ball over the plate.

Now Green is in, my god is RRR trying to give me a heart attack. I cannot remember being so frustrated at the brewers. Maybe we can win the next 3 like last time, at least Yo wont be pitching anymore this series so we will have a chance.
