does anyone know where they are shot off from? if i remember correctly, the ones last year were shot off further to the south, as opposed to kind of over the lake in the years past. im just trying to determine where i could go to see them, excluding the actual lakefromt b/c by the time i get there, it'll be way too crowded

as someone who took a bike ride today by the lake. I can tell that they were setting them up on the 1st pathway on the northern side of the calatrava or the southern most walkway of veterans park. They looked like they were faced south to shoot out towards summerfest. Hope this helps

They shoot them off from Veterans park, and not to nitpick, but these fireworks have nothing to do with summerfest, these are the city of Milwaukee's July 4th fireworks. There's a chance a few will be shot off the top of the US bank building as US Bank is the sponsor - they did this last year.

[Are all of Milwaukees 4th celebrations taking place on July 3rd? That had not crossed my mind before.]

I always assumed that they had the Big Bang on the 3rd so all the surrounding areas could have their own local crowds for the 4th. I know quite a few of the surrounding areas do it on the 4th.

One-line post (This space left intentionally blank?).

On behalf of the site staff, let me point out that none of the one-line posts in this thread is the type that will get you a warning or strike. There are definitely times when a brief response is appropriate, and even entertaining.

When we express concern about one-line posts on the forum, it's more for serial behavior, i.e. posters whose only or primary contribution to the forum is (usually snarky) one-liners.

If that's all you ever bring to the table, we'll contact you privately to let you know. Otherwise, please don't be afraid to occasionally make one line posts. Moderation is the key. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

(I'm sorry I can't contribute much to the actual fireworks topic, since I don't live in Milwaukeeland. Y'all should have had your big show on Saturday, when the weather was gorgeous, like it was in Madison for Rhythm & Booms...)

Sorry Hawing, as a usual lurker I was just having a little fun with that. To be honest, I was away for a couple of weeks due to family issues and when I came back I saw all the hub-bub over how or what to post.

Back on target: the forecast around here is about 30% chance of rain. It's been overcast all day so far, so it's my guess that it'll be hit-or-miss as far as rain during the fireworks.

It's going to be close. The weather is around Madison right now moving that way.

That's a tough situation for the organizers when the weather threatens the event. You've got to look out for the safety of all the attendees and consider if your product will function properly.

I remember Rhythm and Booms was postponed last year and there were a lot of unhappy (literally) campers. Think how early people were probably setting up along the lake today and then have it postponed.

Oh, yeah, that was a pickle for sure. The Warner Park crowd was probably approaching its peak size, and there's a tornado warning in Sauk County and a mean looking (on radar at least) storm headed southeast pretty fast. It weakened before reaching Madison, but the short-term forecast at that time just looked too threatening to take a chance with.

I haven't seen it posted anywhere if the fireworks were canceled or not, but a story on JSOnline indicated organizers would wait until 9:25 PM to make a decision based on radar.

Yeah, it rained during the fireworks, but the show went on.

The lightening and random planes were competing for viewing time, but all in all it was pretty good. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

I enjoyed the fireworks, but I thought it was a little too long. After about 20 minutes, you kind of get the idea and you are waiting for the grand finalee already. Especially when it is cold and wet outside.

I think a 30 minute show is good enough.
