Nice explanation.
I am not saying it was a smart decision I am just saying if the ump doesn't blow the call he would of been safe. Dumb decision? yes but he was safe.
Right... which is why your reply to my post made no sense.

That 0-2 pitch was close, but when you walk the previous two batters you don't get that call. Unfortunate.

how does a pitcher all of a sudden lose command of his pitches

Because Loe relies on pounding the low end of the strikezone as a groundball pitcher and if he isn't getting a) people to bite on the low pitch or b) getting the ump to call the low strike it probably gets in his head and he worries about putting a meatball right in the middle of the zone.

Yeah it really didn't. Sorry. Frustrated moment.

Loe has trouble vs LHers. If minorleaguesplits still existed you could easily see this in all the work he did in Nashville.

ahh, I wasn't aware that he struggled vs lefties. Thanks. Shouldn't this be something our manager should know and be prepared for?

That was also his 15th appearance this season in 26 games. I know, people hate "on pace for" stats, but that puts him on pace for 93 appearances this season. That is nuts.

it was a strike, but you are right. gotta love umpires making calls like that, or calling guys out because the ball beat them to the bag. I'd like to think calls like that even out for a team throughout a season, but you only notice them or remember them when they go against you. oh well, win the series tomorrow and then get to atlanta so i can see some brewer games.

can't play matchups like that every time. plus he got a lefty out the AB before wallace. he's the setup guy, he was looking good through two hitters...he gets to finish that inning. and he would have if the ump calls strike three. oh well.

I thought Roenicke said earlier this year "I don't look at splits." or "I don't use splits." Something like that.

A lot of things went wrong tonight to get the loss. Poor hitting, some sloppy defense, and the two walks at the end. With all that in mind I am going to blame the ump for not ringing him up in the bottom of the 9th.

His job is to call balls and strikes. The Brewers could be up or down ten runs and that should be called a strike. The Astros pitcher could walk ten straight batters and that should be a strike. The strike zone is black and white, not what the situation dictates. The sooner we go to computers, the better in my opinion.

I watched the game last night with my family, and when they showed that, I said "calls like that have people begging for electronic strike zones."

Sure, the Brewers should have scored more runs, but when the ump misses a called strike three one pitch before the game-winning hit, it's hard not to blame the ump. A strike is a strike, and that was a strike.

I wish they would use a tennis-style review system. Let the human umps continue making the calls and give each team 5 reviews per game. The pitcher calls for the review, the umpire points to the booth, and the result is displayed on the scoreboard. The process would take less than 30 seconds.
