This pattern is starting to get very old. Our stars (minus Gallardo I suppose) are all playing extremely well, and our AAA reserves (see: Green, Mitre, Nieves, Almonte, Betancourt - defensively) consistently lose us games. So frustrating.

I'm not blaming Mitre here. RRR said himself he was rusty last night so why would you run him out there today in a tie game in the 10th. I see absolutely no reason why Ax could not have stayed in the game. If we go on to lose, for me its on Roenicke.
Agreed. He has to learn to manage this bullpen better.

Yes I don't get the hesitiation to use pitchers for a 2nd inning when they have a clean, quick one. Hawkins went 9 pitches, Loe went 12, Axford 14. You'd think any of them could have gone another, especially with a day off tomorrow.

There is no way you leave Axford in there.

Why not?

I edited the post with the reason but he pitched yesterday, he didn't have enough pitches to pitch another inning. You really don't want to do that with a 1 inning pitcher. I have a lot of issues with Roenicke's bullpen usage but this isn't one of them.

I'm oddly optimistic still. I'm feeling a Lucroy double followed by a walk-off Boggs HR.

You don't have an Adam Wainwright. Easily the best gentlemen in all of sports. You don't have the amount of real good old American men like the Cardinals do. Holliday, Wainwright, Skip, Berkman those 4 guys are incredible people

So if Axford took 14 pitches to strike out the first batter in the 9th you would have pulled him then?

If they lose, I'm going to put most of the blame on Gallardo giving up 4 in the first and going only 5+. Anything RRR did today is what most managers would have done. I think it's reasonable to question that school of managing, but I don't think there is anything that makes this an 'RRR' stamped loss.

Edit: I am aware that Dusty didn't follow that general rule in this game, but that's just Dusty being Dusty.

You may run like Mays...

Baker didn't have a problem leaving Chapman in for another inning...now he has Cordero left to close tithe game out. There is no reason why Loe or Axford couldn't have pitched a second inning. Hawkins gets a pass since he just came off of the DL.
