Roomba

Crazyk1294

I'm am getting tired of sweeping up piles of dog hair every day during these shedding months. I vaguely remember some discussion on this board regarding the Roomba. I see them on Woot.com every now and then and am always tempted to buy one.

For those of you who have it do you have pets and how well does it work? Is there a lot of maintenance involved? Is the maintenance worth not having to sweep as often? Is worth $100 - $300?

Thanks!

I'd be very curious to know, too. I have three cats, and one of them is a long-hair... within 15 minutes of vacuuming, he's left a new clump of black fur on the carpet http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

I have 2 dogs and 2 cats. Thank God the wife is somewhat of a clean freak, she does a good job keeping all the hair in check. Good ol' fashioned vacuuming a minimum of once per week did the trick, but we went through TONS of bags.

So we recently bought a Dyson bagless on Woot.com and voila! No more bag issues. Just yesterday she said she emptied the Dyson cannister 5 times while vacuuming the house, and our house isn't that big. The filters that thing uses leave the place smelling really fresh - our bagged vacuum could smell like pet hair and something I can't describe.

I often look at those Roombas and just figure they'd fill up too fast. That, and they'd probably freak out the animals. Not having owned one, I can't say for sure though. Maybe they work great.

Also, brushing the animals outside really helps. I should do it every day, but I don't.

Good luck, and may the hair NOT be with you!

I've got 4 cats, 2 dogs, 1 rabbit, and a roomba.

A roomba works, but here's the disclaimers:

- Vacuum thoroughly before you use the roomba for the first time

- run the roomba every day

It'll do the trick, but you just can't overtax it. Maintenance is really just emptying the bin after each use. It's not too bad once you learn how to do it.

please buy one the next time you see one on woot. it will probably be during a woot-off and that will make the next item come up faster! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

They're ok. I've used one for a little bit now. Like Brian said, it's not going to be a heavy duty vacumn, but for simple jobs it works pretty well.

I can only use it to vacumn off my tile kitchen floor, it won't work on the thick carpet of my apartment.

Crazyk...not too sure about the Roomba because I have never used one, but one thing that I can recommend is the Furminator. Its like no other dog brush that I have used. My parents have 3 dogs running around the house and the dog hair was absolutely insane...vacuuming everyday got to be quite the pain in the rear end. The Furminator gets more hair and dander than any brush I have used. I think you can find them at most pet stores but my mom got hers off of ebay for pretty cheap. If its just a few problematic months, it may save you some money.
