Did the Cubs throw the 1918 World Series?

interesting read, no doubt. Wonder if we'll see any of this or the '19 Sox stuff play out on Boardwalk Empire next season? They've hinted already several times (about the Sox).

A whole bunch of innuendo with no real supporting facts. A 1.04 ERA makes it tough to believe though the fielding gaffs do make one wonder.

This comment from the article makes me wonder if more WS should be investigated. (especially in the days of long train trips)

Players commonly groused about being underpaid and there wasn't anyone in the majors who didn't hear rumors about fixes. It was impossible not to see the gamblers at the games, the lobbies of the hotels where they stayed or in the taverns where they drank.

I agree with you cubfan, no real facts, but it does make you wonder. Were the Black Sox singled out to make a statement, while they looked the other way in previous years?

It certainly was a different era when it came to pay. My great grandfather was offered a contract to be a catcher for the White Sox in the 1910's, but he turned it down because he was making more money working at a local factory (AO Smith).

It's always amazing to me how much baseball, and people associated with it, are interested in digging up things from the past that shed baseball in a harsh light. Something I've never quite understood, honestly.
They're interested in truth. Never any reason to stop seeking the truth.
