2011-04-19 Brewers (Wolf) at Phillies (Halladay) - 6:05 PM CDT [Brewers win, 9-0]

Gomez is such and idiot. Why do you try to steal with 2 on and Prince up?
I'm assuming it was a called double steal. Get used to it, as Running Ron is going to be doping a lot of that all season. Can't wait for the home run, as Billy would say!
If that was a called steal, then Roenicke is a complete moron.

On another note, it's pretty sad that people are just happy that we didn't get no-hit. I have more confidence than that at least. And now we have 2 hits!
It goes back to the lean years here. Cross things off the checklist -- avoid the no-hitter, avoid the shutout, avoid the loss, etc.

He constantly sacrifices in the 1st inning, so why would a double steal surprise you?

Tell me if I'm off here, but if Prince had singled in that AB could Gomez not have scored pretty easily from 2nd? I mean, he's plenty fast so why steal?

So he could score on a flyable or even a slow roller to the infield.

It was a double steal, with Braun moving up to second. If it was called by RR, he was probably trying to create a situation where a Fielder single scores 2 instead of 1. Not that I agree with taking that risk.

mlb network with a good explanation as to the logic on the steal...to get runners in motion to create %**++% for Fielder. Just was a perfect pitch to throw on
Yeah, at first I thought it was a pretty silly double steal, but when Jim Kaat explained what the thinking may have been, it made sense. Halladay was pitching strikes, it was 1-2 on Fielder, so chances are he was going to swing and hopefully make contact. The runners moving would mess up the infielders, giving Prince a better chance to sneak a grounder through. It just so happened that it was a ball Prince couldn't swing at in the perfect spot for the catcher to come up throwing.

The fact that it was a double steal would seem to require that it was called by the coaches. If not, then both Braun and Gomez took off on their own. Braun wouldn't take off on his own unless he knew for sure Gomez was going to take off from 2nd as well.

Wow, Betancourt!
