2011-04-19 Brewers (Wolf) at Phillies (Halladay) - 6:05 PM CDT [Brewers win, 9-0]

This game shows what the Brewers can do when they don't give away outs every other inning. I don't care how good the pitching and hitting is if you can't play good defense you won't win a lot of games. How different is this game if Braun takes a bad line to that Rollins bullet. On the other side, this game is still close if Howard doesn't wiff on the single Prince hit to push the lead to 4.

Braun came back into the dugout and was out on the field in the high five line after the game. He looked fine, no grimace or anything. So hopefully it's just nothing. Trying to see if CC can play in left or maybe something minor, like a migraine or something. I hope so at least. I'm sure we'll find out soon enough, it's bound to come up in the press conference.

We are going to beat Halladay and the thread is still full of glass half empty comments. Man, that is a tough world to live in. Yuni and Gomez can get hits. I know it is a shock to some but it does happen.

How many times can you post in a row saying essentially the same thing?

This snow storm knocks out my Dish and miss the Brewers taking it to Halladay, darn it

You tell me. How many time are people going to say Yuni sucks, Gomez is horrible, what an awful at bat, he is a joke.. You can answer your own question I guess.

People are going to keep saying it because it's pretty much true. Gomez has awful at bats. That's the truth. He's barely hitting .200 and sees very few pitches. Never hits it on the ground despite his speed. These are facts. He is great defensively, but the facts are that he's just not a good hitter. There isn't much to refute this, look at his career numbers.

Yes, it's great that we won, but Gomez is not helping this team offensively.

Braun says he's fine. CC didn't look too comfortable out there, but you may as well give it a shot up 9-0. Great game. This will give us a huge mental edge come October...

The thing about Gomez is with Morgan down and Kotsay and Almonte as our other alternatives, they really don't have a choice but to play Gomez right now.

Kotsay would be like Edmonds on that bad Achilles in CF (and we all remember the complaints about that), and Almonte just isn't an option. An outfield of Braun, Kotsay, and Almonte would just be cringeworthy defensively.

I think the thing generating most of the complaints is Gomez hitting second. If they could hide him in the bottom of the lineup and he could continue to play plus defense people wouldn't complain about him as much. That said, Kotsay and YuniB don't really make prototypical 2 hitters, either. There is the Lucroy/Kottaras argument, but then you're really looking at a 6-9 of Kotsay, YuniB, Gomez, Pitcher.

Hart and Morgan will probably both be 100% at the same time. Hart will slide into the 2-hole and if Gomez is still struggling Morgan and Gomez will platoon at the bottom of the order, or Hart will hit 6 and Morgan will hit 2 on days he starts and Counsell or Hart will hit 2 on days he doesn't.

Game wasn't really blacked out, MLB just showed the other regional game (Blue Jays/Yankees).

Well, no not for me because I have DirecTv and on the usual MLBN channel was the Brewer game, which was blacked out and the NY/Tor game was on their alternate channel...

I completely lost the game at the start of the 7th inning.

I taking 2 of 3 from the Phillies on the road takes some of the sting out of getting swept by the Nats.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

I think we all understand that Gomez and Betancourt are below-average players. But it is best to keep criticism at a reasonable level. If they do something blatantly awful, it's fair to criticize them, but per the fan forum etiquette, we would like to avoid "impulsive posts expressing knee-jerk frustration in

the form of vents, rants and complaints."

Just remember, if the Brewers are going to make the playoffs this year, they are going to need contributions from guys like Betancourt and Gomez. They probably are going to be on the team the whole year barring some unforeseen trade. Nobody's opinion on them is going to change because of one play or one game.

And we're tied for 1st place :-)

Missed everything after about the 2nd inning or so because we lost power here with the storm. Everything came back on just in time for Brewers Live. Looks like I need to sit in the dark every night for awhile now.

It sure seems that Yuni has had some bad luck with the bat so far this year. He seems to hit a couple balls hard every game but he is barely above the mendoza line.

Gomez on the other hand has definitely earned his sub .200 average. He is pretty good at putting together some awful at bats. But like everyone else has said; we don't have any other options until Morgan & Hart are healthy. Gomez would be an ideal late game pinch runner or defensive substitution. Other than that he probaby won't hold much value to the team once everyone is healthy.

The most satisfying win of the year for sure; just a great effort all the way around.
