Hmmm, it looks like Hart came out of the game after two plate appearances, if I'm seeing correctly?

Hopefully nothing to be worried about.

Hart is fine, Butler on the other hand left with an injury after being hit in the head by a ball off of Vinny Rottino's bat. Butler needed to be helped off the field no word yet on how serious the injury is.

Final: @Chattanooga 4, Huntsville 1

Stars Offense Missing in Second Straight Loss
Huntsville Stars

Chattanooga, TN. – The Huntsville Stars (8-4) started their first losing streak of the 2011 season with a second consecutive loss to the Chattanooga Lookouts (8-4).

The Stars’ offense only mustered up six hits, with outfielder Brandon Jones and first baseman Sean Halton ringing up two hits each. Halton extended his hit streak to 12 games, the only Southern League player to record a hit in every game of the 2011 season. Jones hit in the Stars only run, with a single to center field in the top of the eighth to score infielder Matt Cline. A lead-off single from Halton followed by a double off the bat of Jones was the only other time a Huntsville base runner advanced beyond first base.

On the other side, the Lookouts’ offense stayed hot for the second consecutive night. Scott Van Slyke recorded three hits and three RBIs, including a two-run dinger off starter Dan Merklinger (1-1). Pedro Baez hit in Chattanooga’s only other run with a double in the first inning. He went 2-for-4 with two doubles against the Stars.

Merklinger went 5.2 innings, giving up four runs on eight hits. He didn’t issue a walk while striking out five. Daren Byrd and Robert Hinton combined to close out the game, going 2.1 innings, allowing just one hit.

Lookouts starter Michael Antonini threw 6 innings, allowing just four hits. Reliever Mario Alvarez allowed the Stars lone run.

The Stars and Lookouts face off for game three tomorrow at 10:15 a.m. CST. The Stars return home on Saturday to open a five-game home stand against the Birmingham Barons.

Merklinger was around the zone a lot--maybe too much given the number of hits--throwing 62 of his 90 pitches for strikes. We may have to start paying more attention to Halton, who's now hitting .375/.388/.563 on the year after very quietly putting up a .292/.345/.416 line last season while playing half his games in righty power-killing Space Coast Stadium. Erik Komatsu was 0-4 with two strikeouts. Lee Haydel did not play.

Merklinger finished strong, striking out the last four batters he faced.

Final: @New Orleans 6, Nashville 5

Nashville Sounds

METAIRIE, La. - The Nashville Sound lost to the New Orleans Zephyrs, 6-5, on Tuesday night at Zephyrs Field in the opener of a four game set. With the loss, Nashville (6-7) has now dropped five of its last six games.

The Zephyrs took a quick 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. The Zephyrs recorded three straight two-out singles, highlighted by a Josh Kroeger base hit to left field and Brandon Boggs fielding error that allowed all three runs to score.

Nashville got their first run in the top of the fourth inning. Eric Farris hit a single to left field, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and scored on a Joe Thurston error after attempting to steal third base.

New Orleans got a run back in the next frame for a 4-1 lead. Former Sound Vinny Rottino led off the frame with a base hit that chased Sounds starter Josh Butler from the contest. Next batter Chris Aguila then doubled off reliever Tim Dillard to score Rottino. The Zephyrs tacked on their final two runs on the night for 6-1 contest in the next inning thanks to a Joe Thurston RBI single and RBI groundout from Rottino.

The Sounds got two runs back in the next frame to reduce the Zephrys' lead to 6-3. Dillard led off with a single to center field in his first at-bat of the year, and later came home on a two-out RBI single from Mat Gamel. After Reed was hit by a pitch, Boggs doubled to center to score Gamel for the club's other run. The rally ended as Jeremy Reed was thrown out at home plate on the play.

The Sounds scored their final runs in the top of the eighth inning. After reliever Frank Mata walked Taylor Green, Farris belted a two-run home run over the wall in left field for his second long ball of the season. New Orleans then replaced Mata with reliever Victor Garate, who gave up a single to Gamel before inducing an inning-ending double play to end the rally.

Jose Ceda picked up his third save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning after working around a leadoff walk by Boggs.

Farris went 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored while Gamel and Boggs each added two hits for Nashville.

In his first rehab appearance for the Brewers, Corey Hart went 0-for-2 with a groundout and strikeout before being replaced by Reed in the fifth inning.

Trahern (1-0) picked up the win after allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits in six innings pitched.

Butler (1-1) took the loss, surrendering four runs (two earned) on six hits in three plus innings pitched. Dillard followed and allowed two runs on three hits and three walks in four innings pitched. Justin James added a scoreless inning.

The Sounds and Zephyrs will continue their four-game series with tomorrow's 11:05 am CT matinee at Zephyrs Field. Right-hander Frankie De La Cruz (0-0, 2.61) takes the mound for Nashville against New Orleans right-hander Tom Koehler (1-0, 0.75).

Jeez, left out of the sentence "Former Sound Vinny Rottino led off the frame with a base hit that chased Sounds starter Josh Butler from the contest" is the useful context, provided above by UeckerPowell, that Rottino's single hit Butler in the head. We hope Josh is okay and that the move was just precautionary. Gamel, Farris, and Boggs stay hot (with the bat, anyway--in addition to Boggs' error, he was also picked off, and Farris was caught stealing), and Green walked twice.

Final: @Brevard County 7, Tampa 0

Frank Longobardo/Brevard County Manatees

VIERA, Fla. -- Former Cy Young award winner Zack Greinke threw three shutout innings in his rehab start and the Manatees finally put some runs on the board, to defeat the Tampa Yankees 7-0 on Tuesday night at Space Coast Stadium.

Greinke retired the first seven batters he faced and allowed just one hit. He struck out four and threw 27 of his 35 pitches for strikes.

Greinke's magic must have rubbed off on the rest of the Manatees pitching staff, because Corey Frerichs threw a scoreless inning following Greinke and then Nicholas Bucci went the remaining five innings.

Bucci struck out six and allowed two hits and earned his first win of the season.

Brevard County's bats finally woke up in the series finale against the Yankees as well. The Manatees took a 1-0 lead in the fourth on a Scott Krieger solo homer.

The Manatees proceeded to score six runs in the seventh as they batted around in the frame. The big hits came on a Krieger double that scored two and a two-run single from D'Vontrey Richardson, who was just activated from the disabled list.

Five Manatees had multi-hit games as Richardson and Krieger had three hits each, while Mike Brownstein, Scooter Gennett and Kentrail Davis added two apiece.

Brevard County will now hit the road for a seven-day, six-game road trip beginning tomorrow afternoon as the Manatees begin a three-game set with the Clearwater Threshers at 1 p.m.

Jeez, if the Brewers had announced that Richardson would be back today too when they sent out word about Greinke's rehab assignment, I just might have gone down to Viera. Quite a game all around when you toss in Bucci's command performance; he didn't walk a batter and posted a 7/2 GO/FO. Richardson also showed off his trademark speed, stealing a bag. Fun with April numbers: Krieger is hitting a mere .483/.545/.966 on the year. Gennett was also hit by a pitch. Hunter Morris and Khris Davis were quiet, with a single and a walk, respectively.

Greinke!

Tampa Top of the 1st

Lost in the greinke madness was a great outing from bucci. The org must like him...20y/o in high a is pretty cool.

Its funny, I just watched that behind the scenes 7 days in June DVD from last season and there was a part where DM was talking to Mark A about going down to Appleton to see Odorizzi and Bucci pitch. Mark A said he has heard of Jake but not Bucci. Then DM made another comment along the lines of "Yeah Bucci is another Canadian that we really like, has a good young arm." Something like that.

Glad to see Richardson back and going 3-4 and most important 0 k's to start the season! If he can keep those down this season, watch out!

What is the scouting report on Nic Bucci these days? He has been pretty good the last few years but he never seems to crack any lists despite the fact he is a 20 year old in the FSL.
Bucci got plenty of attention after a sterling 2009 for Helena (plus a memorable emergency start for Huntsville), but walking 5.1 batters per nine innings, which he did last year, without overwhelming stuff tends to make you more anonymous. As far as stuff, Baseball America's got him with an 89-92 mph fastball, a show-me curve, and an "improving" changeup. The Brewers have always liked Bucci, so he's definitely someone to keep an eye on.

Adam McCalvy:
According to Mark DeCotis of FLORIDA TODAY, who regularly covers the Brewers’ Florida State League affiliate, Greinke threw 11 of his 13 pitches for strikes in the first inning, five of six pitches for strikes in a quick second inning and 11 of 16 pitches for strikes in the third, when he finally allowed a hit...According to a report passed along to Brewers media relations director Mike Vassallo, Greinke, “felt great” and worked with 91-94 mph fastball velocity.
