are you serious? How does his hitting NOT make up for the occasional error? He's averaged like 4.5-5 WAR for the past four years...factoring in crappy defense. why wouldnt you want that "jerk" on your team.....?
Yep, 100% serious. I'm not sure if you can search my posts or not but I have been calling for the team to trade him for 2-3 years already. He plays zero defense, quite possibly ruined Manny Parra's career (look at the pre-dugout fight stats and the post-dugout fight stats) and is so amazingly streaky that he is not an asset to the offense. Sure, when he is hot he is scorching. When he is in a funk he is good for 2-3 pitches per at bat with either a K, a pop-up or a lazy 4-3 grounder. This team will not miss him.

Edit: ...and it's not just the "occasional error". He is possibly the worst 1b in the league right now. He doesn't even make the routine plays anymore...

Anyone who thinks Prince Fielder isn't an elite hitter and not an asset to our offense can't know the game of baseball very well.

Yea, he's terrible defensively, but he's a fabulous hitter.

Well, the fact that you seem to think Prince Fielder is not an asset to the offense means that this isn't even worth getting into an argument about. That's just blatantly incorrect.

Also, saying "Charlie M." reminded me of that scene in Casino with the vice, where the guy refused up until the very end to give up Charlie M.

I thought it was a charlie moore reference for a second...

If Manny Parra cant get over that incident, then he doesnt have what it takes to be major league player.. your nuts if you blame Prince for Parra's struggles

I absolutely know baseball very well having played in both HS and College. I will love the day that he is gone as the Brewers play in the National League...not the American League. You cannot continue to put all of that extra strain on your team with that shoddy of defense. It elevates the pitch counts, kills the morale and oh yeah, costs runs/wins. Sure, he can hit when he is going well...but when he is not he doesn't contribute one thing to this team.

I was waiting when the first manager posts would come. Well I guess the under came in. It only took 16 games. It doesn't matter who manages, the minute there was a losing streak some would think he stinks and they know all the moves. It really is entertaining stuff.

If you aren't using Stetter here there is no point in having him on the roster. How bizarre not to use the lefty this inning.

My only thought is if stetter doesn't get the out, there's not much left in the pen besides Axford. Braddock threw 35 or 40 pitches last night...maybe they don't want to use him. Forgive me if I'm forgetting someone out in the bullpen (Kintzler too I guess, he threw quite a few pitches yesterday as well). Not that I disagree with you, just trying to come up with some reasoning for using Loe all inning. oh well, it worked out just fine.

According to Fangraphs, Prince Fielder has been the third most valuable hitter in the major leagues since 2007. I would assume many other advanced metrics, along with just about anyone who watches baseball would agree. In no world is he not an asset offensively.

And when Fangraphs factors in his poor defense, he's ranked 16th in overall value since 2007.
