Nate McLouth for Carlos Gomez

Judging by the reaction of both Brewers and Braves fans to these two players, it may make sense that a change of scenery would be a good for both of these players. I'm thinking something along the lines of the Marquis Grissom-Devon White deal. I know CF isn't exactly a concern with Nyjer Morgan there right now, but I personally am beginning to like Morgan as the the split in a platoon in CF and a super utility OF/PR i.e. Craig Counsell-esque role.

A couple of things to think about:
-McLouth is a free agent after this season.
-McLouth makes $6.5MM this season, with a $10.65MM team option and $1.25 buyout
-If we are thinking platoon with Morgan, McLouth lifetime slash line is .249/.326 against LH Starting pitching. Gomez is .234/.289.

I know it may not be the perfect match long term and Gomez is 4 years younger and cheaper, but if the players were traded for another as a truly "change of scenery type" of move with the Braves and Brewers paying the traded players salary, it may work out. The Braves get Gomez because of the D he brings to the OF with their "new-to-the-OF" LF in Martin Prado. Additionally, their lineup could arguably handle his bat better than ours can by putting him in the 8th hole. I know I for one would be happier with a lineup that included McLouth, either in the 2 hole between Weeks and Braun or in the bottom of the lineup where his walk ability would be useful.

as a Braves fan I'd do this trade in a second! I'd even do it if the Braves ate half of McLouth's salary

McLouth can catch the ball in the OF but he doesn't have Gomez' range or arm (not even close in arm strength) .... I think McLouth turned around his hitting this spring but I still don't see him hitting more than .260 for the season but without power....

Why would the Brewers do this? Morgan is a better CF candidate than McLouth

The Braves are deep in SS prospects but none are higher than AA (Tyler Pastornicky) ....might also make available some bullpen arms

McLouth is horrible, not even mentioning his salary. There are better one year wonders out there to pursue.

Like Chris Dickerson!

I'd take Dickerson in a heartbeat at the MLB minimum over McLouth even if the Brewers only had to pay a small fraction of the contract.

Like Chris Dickerson!

I still have no problem with saying the Dickerson was our best 4th OF (over Kotsay, Reed, and Boggs) and possibly our best CFer (all prior to Mr. Plush of course). I don't know enough about McLouth to compare the two.

But what I don't get is the hate for him... TLB, why does he keep coming up?

Just a (at this point) bad running joke between RockCoCougars & me. He championed the 'Chris Dickerson: Baseball Player, or human pile of dog poop?' camp, while I was firmly entrenched in the 'Chris Dickerson: Ken Griffey Jr. pt. II, just give him time' camp.

Ahh... I knew there was a lot of back-and-forth (I was pro-Dickerson myself) between a lot of people... I knew there was some playful banter, just mis-read the amount of sarcasm. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

The important thing to remember is my signature. RockCoCougars loves Chris Dickerson! Just wait & see if he gets that avatar running.
Here you go, getting me to use an avatar is quite an accomplishment. Thanks for the creativity! I will try to do it justice with a few Dickerson rants a month.
