Trading Kottaras for a Shortstop

I think within a week or so George Kottaras will be traded for a AAA or AAAA shortstop.

 

I think the Twins are a good bet, with Mauer going on the DL and likely destined for the DH role more and more. Alexi Casilla might be a possibility, although I don't know that the Twins would value Kottaras that strongly, they are looking at Casilla as a starter...we might need to sweeten that deal. Maybe Trevor Plouffe is much more likely

 

Essentially we're going to trade Kottaras for a guy to fill the role that Luis Cruz would have held, a AAA SS first guy called up if needed

Another MLB Catcher currently on the DL (thus creating a possible need or want for George Kottaras):

 

Dodgers Hector Gimenez 15 day DL ... SS/2B Ivan DeJesus may be a possibility? With Furcal on the DL though that may be a stretch

By the way the reason I said Alexi Casilla is that I'm not buying that the Twins are going to go with Casilla as their fulltime SS. I think they will make a seperate trade for a better SS, maybe not. But yeah if its the Twins, Plouffe might be a stronger bet

 

Maybe we can trade Kottaras to the Ranger for Luis Cruz and watch Brewerfan.net go into a meltdown

If they trade for Alexi Casilla he becomes the starter immediately. At least I would hope.

 

Edit: I checked his defense and it's not that great. Maybe not an immediate starter, but probably a better player than we can get for Kottaras.

Kottaras doesn't strike me as a Twins-type of player.

Not sure on the prospect status of Trevor Plouffe, but it seems as if he's blocked at SS in Minnesota and has been dwindling away at Triple-A Rochester for the past few years. Seems to have some pop in his bat and the ability to take a few bags here and there. I would imagine it would take more than Kottaras to land him, though.

He's so attractive there can't possibly be two of him.

considering that Kottaras passed through waivers, it would appear that I grossly over-valued him. Doesn't mean he still can't be traded for a AAA SS though, of course, but every MLB GM could have had him for nothing, so I don't think he'll be traded for much!

Nice to have Kottaras clear. He'll be needed at some point, I'm sure.
