2007 Vent Thread, Part 1

There is a tad too much over-reaction on this board as of late. Four games have been played people, Four Games. And it isn't like we are 0-4. Yes we probably need a right handed bat off the bench. Yes our starters have looked shaky in spots. We have only been out of one game, our opponents have been out in one game, and we split a pair of close games. So pretty please, take a long walk or whatever you may need to do and realize that the season isn't over and the sky isn't falling.

Good thing this is the "vent" thread:

- All the ways in which we looked so good in game 1, we look bad in now. We look bad on the bases. We aren't stealing them, and we're getting picked off. Our defense looks questionable again. We don't look disciplined enough at the plate.

- Sheets looked like an entirely different pitcher today. His velocity was down, and he got hammered.

- The top of the order is NOT producing. Rickie and Prince are not showing NEARLY enough discipline at the plate.

- Everytime we're trailing close, we give up a few runs, then come back and make it CLOSE again.

- Craig Counsell is a bench player. Not a starter.

- Once again, we can't get timely hitting. We're constantly stranding runners in scoring positions. Just this game, Zambrano has given us multiple opportunities to break out with a big inning, and we end up having to settle for 1 run.

- I hate FIBs.

I'm so sick of all the dang popups. Hit the ball on the line guys. Ugh.

Fielder needs to get going. He's a major cog in our lineup and we can't afford to have him hit like he has.

Yost needs to use Gross earlier in the game. Is there something wrong with him? Why is Gwynn hitting again?

Finally, get Braun to the bigs, we need his bat.

If Sheets does not dominate we are in big Trouble and i am not sure about Cappy either he has not been the same pitcher since after the all star break. But the Problem is if Prince and Weeks are not producing this could be a very long month of April. There is also alot of pressure on Billy Hall to produce from the 4th spot.It was nice to get off to a 2-0 start but if the Brewers don"t hit we won"t win alot.I think the Brewers need to bring up Braun and let him play.

In my baseball fantasies, the following would appear:

"Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano is out indefinitely after an over-enthusiastic point at the sky resulted in a torn oblique."

Or a strain. I'm not fussy.

(Even those of us without Y chromosomes need to vent sometimes.)

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

I've got a couple.

My first one is directed to those who schedule games. Why on Earth did they schedule the Cubs to play in Milwaukee before they had their own opening day at Chewing Gum Field? Friday was like opening day to Cubs fans, and they got a bobblehead out of the deal (which was pretty dumb on the Brewers part to give away a bobblehead at that game in the first place). Many Brewer fans who wanted a bobblehead lost out so a Cubs fan can sell it on Ebay. I realize I should be thankful that the Brewers have had 3 sell outs (I think today was a sell out) the first week of the season. However, the games vs the Cubs would sell out anyways. Not only that, I was happy to see over 20,000 in attendence for the second and third games against the Dodgers, so crowds may have been alright this weekend.

Next vent goes to Carlos Zambrano. In the 4th, after he gave up a run, the Brewers managed to get runners on 1st and 3rd with two outs. Zambrano gets Jenkins to strike out, again, to end the inning. Why did he have to start yelling and screaming? With 2 outs in an inning, facing a guy who at best is a .275 career hitter...expect to get him out. Chances are you will get him out. Chances are you will get anyone out who comes up at that point. If he had runners at the corners with no outs and managed to get out of the inning unscathed, I could understand getting a little excited. But not with 2 outs and Jenkins making the 3rd out.

My final vent goes to the Brewer hitters, especially Bill Hall and Johnny Estrada. Please, please start laying off that first pitch. There was an inning today where Zambrano recorded 2 outs on 2 pitches. Make the opposing pitcher work to get you out. I will say, it hasn't hurt Estrada too much yet, put patience is a virtue, and the Brewers are not looking virtuous early on.

My beef is with anyone and everyone who labels the Brewers as "up and coming" or "turned the corner" or "good."

People around here get so pissed about the national opinion when the Brewers are disrespected, but when they get a little praise, everyone here acts as if the task is complete. I'm talking about "They're on the right track...so everyone that talks bad about them is ignorant" type of attitude.

I was at the game today, and let me tell you, it was the same old Brewers. Until they win, they're a bad team, and everyone other than people on this site know it. Sorry for speaking the truth. Potential gets old.

Well, we lost to the Cubs. Carlos Zambrano said our offense sucks, and right now he is right. And tomorrow we have to face the biggest Brewer killer this side of Jeff Suppan, Wade Miller.

At least they haven't completely replaced batting average on TV broadcasts with OPS. The day that happens, I may have to stop watching baseball and only listen on the radio. lol

I don't normally have my day effected by sports teams. Packers, Badgers, Bucks, etc. Lose, and I'm still ok.

However, when the Brewers lose to the Cubs I tend to be affected in a negative way. I get ticked off. I gripe. I speak of hatred toward Cub fans. I will take off my Brewers shirt or hat and put it away. I won't look at the newspaper the next day, won't watch news, etc.

I think I'm a whack job. Maybe it's gone a bit too far?

I'm pretty upset by how un-upset I am at the Brewers. At this point last year, three losses in a row would have sent me into a downward spiral accompanied by booze and an endless stream of tears. Now I just think, 'eh, its only April 8th. 156 more games'

And that really bothers me.

AC,

I feel the same way. I think this has a lot to do with the fact that the Brewers, for the first time I can remember (I was born in 1985), have too much talent for me to panic. This team has much more talent than the '05 squad, and because of that I expect them to finish with a better record. We have no black holes in the rotation or line-up, and we have enough depth the deal with injuries. Why should we panic?

I'm venting that this season there is no special patch for the 5th anniversary of the worst team in franchise history.

The patch could be a picture of Bernie Brewer swinging at and missing a pitch. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif

If Bernie were wearing a number 18 jersey, I'd buy the patch. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

Sorry, not Brewer related....

In my historical-fiction OOTP league, my team just won the honor of becoming the "Black Sox". I had won 4 out of 5 pennants, and the last two World Series prior to "throwing" the '19 postseason. From 1917, the odds of becoming the Black Sox went up for each succesive WS loser.

I just lost 8 of my best players and my dynasty just as we finally are leaving the deadball era......Grrrrr.......http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
