I'm gonna vent about the fact that I'm on vacation for a week and now TWICE this week, the Brewer game was barely 2 hours long! What am I going to do today for another hour before the late hoops games are on????http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

I am sick of all this talk about Damien Miller coming back. He has proven nothing over his time as a brewer. His bat never seemed to show anything. Now the Brewers have two catchers in Mike Rivera and JD Closser that aren't passed their prime and the Brewers are more than likely going to loose them if they dont get rid of damien miller. I thought the brewers were a team that looked to the future, but keeping Damien Miller will just make them loose all their depth......Do they plan on putting rottino there after estrada becomes too expensive? I know they could start miller on the DL, but that is only a short-term fix.

Sorry that was a little repetitive, but I just needed to get that out. Does anyone else feel that same way?

You know, I think I'm also in the minority here, but I agree with Time for a Miller that Bill Hall is a bit overrated by some fans. I get the impression that a significant portion (maybe even the majority) of fans consider him to be an elite superstar and the cornerstone to the Brewers' franchise, and to be honsest with that I disagree. Now, I definitely think he's a solid player, and he had a great season last year, but I'm not ready to place him among the MVP contenders or perrenial all-stars just yet. If he builds on his 2006 season, and takes the next step forward in 2007 that a lot of fans are expecting and assuming, then yes, he'll have to be included with the top-tier players. But, in my opinion placing him among the elite at this point in time is probably a big premature.

I guess my whole point is not that Hall isn't good or even great, but just than he isn't as good or as great as more than a few fans think. Also, I hope I'm wrong, and that Billy wins NL MVP this year, and the triple crown, all while leading the Brewers to the World Series.

I am tired of MLB players saying that wether they stay or go as a free agent is out of their control. They are free to go or stay unless they are not offered a contract. Why can't they just be honest and say, "I am going to play for whoever pays me the most."

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

How about that decision to send Braun down?

The alternatives are a guy who is replacement-level (Graffanino) and a decent backup SS/2B with little power (Counsell). If Koskie were able to play, I'd understand it. But Koskie's bell is still ringing, and he doesn't appear to be ready until way after Braun will be.

As much as I like Braun he was not ready with his glove. 4 errors in 11 games is not going to cut it. His stick is more than ready but he has not moved on with the glove enough to start the year in Milwaukee.

I hate the Bill Hall love also at this point, lets see if he produces this year before we think he is going to be the man. Lot players have had flashes of game and never came close.

Can Ben Sheets please stay healthy this year and prove me wrong that he is a top 5 pitcher in this league. He has the talent, but dam he has not put it all together and led this team.

He's already the man. What more does he have to prove to show you that? And most players don't have "flashes" that last two whole seasons.

Last season was breakout season that maybe be his career no the norm. The year before was a solid average season, nothing off the charts. If an 837 OPS makes you the man in 05, then are standards are low.

For a SS or CF, it does make you the man, actually.

He played 66 games at SS, 59 games at 3B, and 23 at second. Cannot really put him at any spot for that season.

Peavy,

I have stated in the past he is one the best athletes that the Brewers have at any level. He has also grown into a better ballplayer that I ever thoght he would be.

My point is that I'm not ready to put Billy Hall in the upper echelon at this point. He has a great season last year, and the year before a very solid one.

Last year in 36 more at bats he Ked 59 more times. He also had one less hit in 06 than 05. His average dropped was down .21 points in 06. These are all negatives.

Postives from last year 18 more homeruns, 23 more walks which helped him come close to doubling the 05 total. His OBP was up .003, and his SLG up .058.

I believe he is some were in the middle of these two seasons, IMO he is a solid player no matter what spot he plays. I do not see him however being an all star type player or MVP candidate which some people have posted and they have that right. Hall has already exceeded what I ever thought he would be, so he very well could do that again,

I really don't think anybody considers Hall an upper-level (All-Star) type player yet. I think most people feel he is a very good player who has a chance to take that next step.

However, if his year totals from last year were compared to the leagues CF's he'd easily be in the top 5. And all things considered (Age, New Position) he should realistically improve this season.

To make this a legitimate vent.... It bothers me when people don't take position into consideration. Hall is no Pujols.... He also doesn't play first base!!!

I don't know what to think of Hall myself. Part of me wants to think his BB rate will continue to improve a bit and looks at his solid mental approach at the plate last year and expects him to continue to produce and even get better. The other part of me sees some holes in his swing and thinks if his OBP drops even a little he wouldn't be that great.

I'm just going with the flow on Hall, I'm not really setting any expectations for him nor making predictions. Whatever happens happens.

Bill's bat is live as ____. His OBP increased last year, largely due to his focus on upping it - and he's talked this off-season about how he intends to continue to strive for higher & higher OBP. I'd guess we'll see him with a higher BA & OBP this year, with his SLG% down. I attribute that last part to the fact that pitchers know he's a legit HR threat now.

I'd expect to see Hall's 2Bs rate go up (in relation to his HRs dipping), so his SLG% shouldn't suffer too much... But I'm not 'stats-head', and these are just guesses from watching baseball over the years.

Any gurus care to agree/disagree?

I'm guessing Hall will be around .275-.285, with his 2Bs outweighing his HRs. Maybe .280/.355/.525/.890, with 90-100 RBI?

I vent that too many BF.netters have Billy pegged for 40 HRs, and Corey Hart breaking out with a near 30-30 season. I hope both these are true, and I trust said prognosticators, but sheesh!

Not venting on him, but I worry that our collective hopes for 2007 for both he and Hart are too lofty. But even more, I hope that I'm proved wrong, and Hall eclipses 40 2Bs & 40 HRs, while Corey chases down 30/30 status.

Sorry TooLive, I was going for a sarcastic bit of nostalgia with the link I posted to our old friend bjames.
