Traveling to Ireland

zzzmanwitz

Hey guys,

I am looking into taking a trip to Ireland with a friend towards the end of August and was looking for any and all suggestions you may have on what to see and where to stay. I have done some reading online but I figured if anyone here had any other suggestions, the more knowledge the better. Thanks in advance for any advice you may have.

my mother-in-law and sister-in-law were there last August/September. They could help you.

Hey buddy,

I went a year ago. I spent a week there. It was a great time. Kiss the Blarney stone, tour every castle you can. Check out the Cliffs of Moher and if you can, drive across the country. Ireland is like the size of Wisconsin. We typically stayed at either a B&B, a hotel and a night at the Ashford Castle. It was great time man. Go to Queenstown as well, and check out the spot where the Titanic last stopped. I probably had the least amount of fun in Dublin, but I am kind of a history buff. Ireland is expensive, so be prepared.

The reason you see sheep with different colors spray painted on them is so the farmers can tell the difference between their sheep or their neighbors in case they get loose.

If you love golf, you will have a great time. There is a course around every corner.

PM me if you need any specifics on it.

I'll be looking for advise too, since my fiance and I just booked flights there for a wedding in early September. I went there in highschool and absolutely loved it, so i'm excited to go back. Just kind of worried that I'll want to squeeze too much into the 6 days that we're there!

Depending on how long you are there, since it's August, grab an ultra-cheap flight to Edinburgh for a couple days. It's about an hour by plane and it's the single biggest arts, comedy and music festival on the planet at that time. Sure, Dublin has some great things to do, but Edinburgh in August is EPIC! Cheaper than Dublin too!

My wife and I we there last August. We had a great time and saw a ton of the country in the 6 days that we were there. I thought that Dublin was great and would recommend it to anyone. Temple Bar is the area that a lot of tourists end up checking out in Dublin. I was told that only tourists go there but I ended talking with quite a few locals who were having dinner there too. If you are into history and will be in Dublin I highly recommend a tour of the Kilmainham Gaol. It is a historical jail where a lot of political prisoners were held in the early 1900's. I learned a lot about the history of the Ireland on the tour. The one town that we really loved and wish that we had spent more time in was Dingle. It is part of a peninsula on the west side of the island north of the Ring of Kerry. It was awesome. We also spent a night in Cork but if you have limited time I would recommend skipping it. I thought that Cork had a little rougher feel to it. But, if you end of going to Blarney Castle it is just outside of Cork so you will probably end up in the city.

Lastly, I will also echo the comments about Ireland being a bit pricey. Not sure if it is the exchange rate or what but I think that it would be difficult to get through the country if you are looking to do it on the cheap. Unless you don't mind staying at hostels. We did B&B's most of the way and had a great time doing so.
