Our Once a Year Ode to the WWE -- Wrestlemania 27

Mass Haas
You could be right, but Vince is the reason the company even survived. He does lose sense for what people want nowadays, but what he's done in the past has been good. HHH will probably do a better job making the company more about wrestling when he takes over. Time will tell I guess.

The reason the company survived was WCW screwing up royally. They were loaded to the gills with talent and if they would have had any sense booking-wise, would have buried Vince in 1997. Instead you had the utter cluster that was guys like Bischoff/Nash/Russo/Sullivan, etc. booking and only pushing old guys. The mid-carders that they had were epic - Eddie, Mysterio, Benoit, Jericho, Malenko all in their primes, and they blew it. All they would have had to do was get more of those guys over - problem being that guys like Hogan/Nash, etc. wouldn't job to them. It's not like those guys would have been buried, but they were just stupid.

And they screwed Flair like a dozen times.

I'll be watching WM 27 later tonight, so for most of the evening I'll be trying to avoid spoilers, but here are my random predictions:

Taker over Triple H (I wouldn't be completely surprised to see HBK cost HHH the match)

Lawler over Cole (Both Cole and Swagger catch stunners)

Cena over Miz (Something tells me Rock is going to cost Miz the match, way too much buildup on the Rock-Cena angle. Hope I'm wrong.)

Snookie/Morrison/Trish over Laycool and Zigler (Snookie pins Zigler)

Edge over Del Rio

Punk over Orton

Corre over Kane, Big Show, Santino, Kofi

Mysterio over Rhodes

Sheamus over Bryan

Oops, I'll get these in before the first match, in order of confidence:

Taker vs. HHH: Taker. If you put money on Taker, you'll make money.

Cole vs. Lawler: Lawler

Morrison, Snooki, Stratus vs. Zigler and LayCool: Don't really care, which is saying something given the push Morrison has been given, but Team Snooki wins

Cena vs. Miz: Miz retains WWE Championship

Del Rio vs. Edge: Del Rio wins Heaveyweight Championship

The Corre vs. The Not-Corre: The Corre, but I don't care.

Punk vs. Orton: Orton

Rhodes vs. Mysterio: Rhodes

Sheamus vs. Bryan (if they have it again): Sheamus. Bryan might be turning heel shortly.

Yeah, it didn't really have a big moment. I really think the Undertaker was legitimately in a bad, bad way after his match. They set off the fireworks and everything to set up his typical celebration, and he couldn't even stand. They showed a close up of his eyes, and they looked bad. He is definitely on his last end here. That match took everything he had left. He was definitely winded and struggling even a few minutes in. Triple H still seemed fine coming out of it.

overall disappointed by the event,

regarding undertaker, i found this blogpost a while ago:

The Undertaker was told by doctors that he waited so long to repair his torn rotator cuff that it can’t be fixed. To update this situation, the latest is that Undertaker’s shoulder may never return to 100% strength or mobility. While he will be able to work at WrestleMania, his in-ring future is looking as bleak as it ever has.

It seems like the big three matches (Undertaker-Triple H, Lawler-Cole, Cena-Miz) were all very underwhelming. HHH-Undertaker had its moments, but the match also seemed to lumber on at points.

Some of the earlier matches (Mysterio-Rhodes, Edge-Del Rio, etc.) made up for it a bit, but overall as has been previously said this WrestleMania really didn't have that "moment."

The vignette with Snoop Dogg, Teddy Long, and Roddy Piper smashing the dude singing "Friday" was pretty funny, though.

I feel like the Undertaker really isn't capable of having a good match anymore. The only reason his two with HBK were good is because HBK carried him. The first one was far better than the second imo. The match with HHH was pretty good, but would've been better if Taker was in any shape to wrestle. He was done a few minutes into the match, which is part of the reason why I think they had HHH dominate him all match. Taker can't do anything anymore. I seriously doubt he'll wrestle another match until Wrestlemania next year. I don't see any reason why he would, and that match will probably be his last.

That was Zack Ryder.
It was funny, but it was unnecessary. They bumped the Sheamus/Bryan US title match from the card to have crap like that. They could've easily cut that pointless segment and cut down on the Lawler/Cole segment(I won't call it a match) to have that match stay on the card.

The whole thing was very disappointing to me. The Rock did very little and brought very little extra to the show. The matches were alright...but there seemed to be fewer of them than previous years and the ones that they did have were all kinda blah.

There was no title changes, there was no memorable moment. No heel or face turns, nothing. Special stuff, big things should happen at WM and nothing did. It also lacked the excitement of past years. Couple of reasons i think:

1. Other than HHH/Taker, none of the matches were really all that easy to get excited about. Poor booking.

2. There were no real special matches, no money in the bank, ladder match, triple threat or anything. A PPV full of one on ones with mediocre matchups was created and we saw the result. Not even bringing in the Rock could help it very much. We'll see if the Rock continues to appear on TV or if he is gone for good - I haven't watched RAW yet.

Why are they waiting 1 year for that match? The Rock just brought back a ton of fans to the shows, and they are going to make them wait a year to see that match? They better do some great writing to keep everyone watching in that time.

Building up for an entire year is very, very odd. We'll see if they can pull it off, but I'm having some serious doubts. I guess it probably also means that Cena might finally be out of the WWE Championship picture for awhile, or will be soon. I can't imagine him carrying the title in WM next year, with a preset matchup against the Rock in place. They're going to want that title defended. We'll see what happens.

WWE is getting very, very stale though with it's 3-4 identical title contenders getting shot after shot after shot. Same storylines just repeat over and over and over again.

Between Cena-Rock (WM28 will be in Miami, Rock's hometown), HHH-Taker 2 (which may well be another career vs. streak match vis-a-vis HBK-Taker 2), and the two major titles on the line, I think next year's Wrestlemania could be a potentially huge show.

Agreed this Wrestlemania was blah. I didn't get into the HHH-Taker match because it was so obvious who the winner would be. If there had been any doubt, would have been a classic. Both men worked their butts off, hats off.

Actually, that would be HHH-Taker 3 since they first met at WM X-Seven, which I actually think was a better match. This year's started off pretty solid but then it just turned into finisher, pin attempt, kick-out, lay on the ground for 5 minutes, repeat 5 times. Kind of boring to me. Although I did think that it could've been over after HHH pulled off the tombstone.

I think the problem which we all would agree on was the booking of the matches. 2 Title matches on the card. Neither belt changed hands. The whole show should of been booked differently. A lot of time was wasted on a little things that could of fit in another match or two. Sheamus/Bryan would of been a good Wrestlemania match had given the time. They should of split up the 8 man tag match and put Kofi vs. Barret for the IC Title and Big Show/Kane vs. Slater/Gabriel for the Tag Titles. I know the fued with Cole and Lawler was a good one, but the match went on way too long. Morrison and Ziggler were wasted in the 6 person tag match. They should of had a one on one match. But what do I know, I've only watched wrestling my whole life and probably won't get sick of it no matter how bad the story lines get or the wrestlers get.

Yeah, I'm with you. Wrestling is like an addiction to me that I can't kick. Not gonna stop watching it, or following it, any time soon.

It's probably because The Rock has commitments until then. That's my guess.

according to sescoops.com

Early in the day on Monday, the plan was for The Undertaker and Triple H

to have a rematch at SummerSlam and for The Undertaker to wrestle John

Cena at WrestleMania 28. Apparently The Rock’s decision to wrestle John

Cena at WrestleMania 28 was made just hours before the news was

announced on RAW.

This was pretty weak... I'm glad I just waited and downloaded it.

There were some really great moments, though Taker/HHH was too long and then to have it end with that stupid gogoplata that Taker uses kind of sucked. When HHH took the tombstone earlier, I was hoping he would just job clean to Taker's finish.

The main event was rushed, but that's fine since neither of them are really that great of a worker.

The fact that two of the best workers on the card got bumped off of it sucked.

Orton's gimmick is dumb as hell, but he's got a lot of talent. I liked that match a fair amount.

I agree on Orton. He should've just stayed heel. I liked him a lot better that way. Now he's some sort of crazed face, which is weird. It's like he's still a heel, but everyone likes him. It's a very odd gimmick. Him and CM Punk had a pretty good match though. The HHH/Taker finish was dumb too, I agree on that also.
