You're either into this guy or your not. I think he's hysterical in an Andy Kaufman-esque way.

 

Anyway, he will be at the High Noon Saloon on July 25th, with my friend's band Awesome Car Funmaker opening. Some of you will laugh, others will roll their eyes, but I love the behavioral science of it all (he had a brief cameo in the Tenacious D film).

I know, but that is kind of the point. It becomes hysterical watching the audience trying to figure out what's going on- "Is this a gag, or is this guy for real?"

Stand-up does not seem to be the best forum for his material. He's more different than funny, much like Matt V.

 

I wonder if he developed the fake cough as a way to stifle the hecklers. He told like 6 jokes in 5 minutes, so he probably needed a way to stretch out his stuff.

I saw him at the Cactus Club last year, and loved it. The first time I heard him I hated it, but htat was 10 years ago. The cough and then spitting loogies into his drink is a schtick most people won't copy as well.

 

"Any baseball fans out there? Have you heard about Barry Bonds chase for the record? He's about to break Janis Joplins record for most injections"

Hey Bikeage, I was at that Cactus Club show. He spit his drink at me. I thought it was great. His schtick seems to be a satire on the garden variety of comedians. It's not like he's playing the Riverside or Overture Center. He's doing the High Noon and Cactus Club in front of people looking for an experience, not just an act. In person, he definitely delivers on that experience by having much of the audience wondering what is going on, the drunks enjoying the ludicrous jokes, and the rest thinking about the guts it takes to subject yourself to the riddicule. There are so many acts out there that are the same, but the difference he gives is in the eyebrow raise he produces.
