I am excited to see how Thornburg adjusts to AA next year. He seems to be figuring out A+ pretty well. I am actually really encouraged by our arms in the minors with Peralta, Thornburg and Fiers but the bats still worry me.

I can't decide if this is good news about Josh Prince, or just bad news about the state of the Brewers' farm system:

Gennett .299/.326/.395/.724 Prince .274/.320/.363/.683 Morris .273/.300/.459/.759 Ke. Davis .245/.318/.357/.675 Richardson .273/.316/.371/.687

People still have hopes for Davis's bat, & many think Richardson is an interesting 'project player'. If Prince hit about as well as those two, & iirc is well-regarded defensively at shortstop, does that mean the Brewers have a SS prospect again?

It'll be interesting to see if Prince can hold his own at Huntsville next season.

Manatees Press Release:

Scooter Gennett named FSL Post-Season All-Star

VIERA, Fla. --- Florida State League president Chuck Murphy announced on Monday that Brevard County Manatees second baseman Scooter Gennett was selected as the utility infielder to the 2011 Florida State League Post-Season All-Star team. The team was selected by field managers, official scorers, and club sports writers representing the twelve teams in the league.

Gennett, who was also selected as a FSL Mid-Season All-Star, currently leads the league in both at-bats with 529 and hits with 128.

He also has the second lowest total plate appearance-to-strikeout ratio in the Florida State League with one strikeout per every 8.88 plate appearances.

Heading into action on Monday, Gennett currently leads the Manatees with 126 games played and leads all current Brevard County players with a .299 batting average.

He is second on the club in both RBI (50) and total bases (209). Gennett also ranks third on the ‘Tees with 66 runs.

Gennett’s 16-game hitting streak from April 21-May 7 ties him for the fourth longest hitting streak in the Florida State League in 2011. He also reached base in 15 consecutive games from May 20-June 21.

The Sarasota, Fla. native has been swinging a hot bat in the second half of the season, as he is hitting .333 (84-for-252) since June 23. Gennett has also racked up 42 multi-hit games in 2011.

Gennett was drafted in the 16th round of the 2009 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft by the Brewers out of Sarasota High School. He was named both a Mid-Season and Post-Season All-Star with Wisconsin last season.

Both Baseball America and MLB.com listed Gennett as Milwaukee's fourth-best prospect heading into the 2011 season.

Baseball: Calvert Hall's Krieger Rises With Brewers

Scott Krieger, a 2005 Calvert Hall grad, is in his third season in the Milwaukee Brewers' organization

By Matt Zenitz, Towson (MD) Patch.com

Even now, Scott Krieger can still remember his baseball coaches at Calvert Hall College High School preaching to him about the importance of hard work.

“The number-one thing they instill in their players, and instilled in me, is just the importance of hard work,” Krieger said. “They helped me realize that I wouldn’t be able to get to [the professional] level without hard work and just going out every day and giving your best.”

Getting to the professional level had been a goal of Krieger’s for as long as he can remember. And although he says he wasn’t projected as a major league player coming out of high school, he continued to put in the necessary work he knew it would take to one day become one.

The work paid off.

A 19th-round pick of the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2009 Major League Baseball draft after an outstanding baseball career at George Mason University, Krieger is currently is in his third year in the Brewers’ organization and is having a breakout season.

The 24-year old outfielder, who graduated from Calvert Hall in 2005, is batting .275 with 27 extra-base hits - 17 doubles, three triples, seven home runs – and 35 RBIs for the Class-A Brevard County (FL) Manatees. He has hit 31 home runs in his three seasons in Milwaukee’s organization.

“Scott’s been a nice piece for us,” Brevard manager Jeff Isom said. “He’s done a nice job. He features a strong bat, has power and does a nice job [defensively] in the outfield as well.”

Krieger grew up in Towson, minutes away from Calvert Hall’s campus. At Calvert Hall, he was a three-year varsity player and was named All-County and All-Metro in both his junior and senior seasons. He batted .500 with 10 home runs and 49 RBIs as a junior in 2004 and hit .524 with nine home runs and 45 RBIs as a senior in 2005. During the 2005 season, the Cardinals won a state-record 31 straight games and finished the year ranked No. 7 in the USA Today National Poll. Krieger posted a .467 career batting average at Calvert Hall and slugged 21 home runs.

At George Mason University, he was a four-year starter batting .356 with 57 doubles, 11 triples, 69 home runs and 238 RBIs. He hit .365 or better during each of his last three years with the Patriots and hit at least 20 home runs during each of those three seasons. He had a career-best 80 RBIs as a senior in 2009.

Now, Krieger is focused on having continued success in the Brewers’ organization and doing whatever he needs to in order to one day reach the major leagues.

Krieger and the Manatees wrap up their regular season Sept. 4.

“Obviously, I’d love to get a chance to play in the big leagues,” Krieger said. “I just want to finish this year out strong, continue to play and hopefully get a chance to get to the big leagues at some point.”
