Well Opening Week is here! I am so giddy, I can't focus on any work so I decided to start something fun. I know pre-season predictions mean next to nothing, but they're fun to do and read. So let's do some predicting... What do you think about:

Who will win:

AL East

AL Central

AL West

AL Wild Card

NL East

NL Central

NL West

NL Wild Card

Playoffs?

AL MVP

NL MVP

AL Cy Young

NL Cy Young

AL Rookie of the Year

NL Rookie of the Year

AL Manager of the Year

NL Manager of the Year

Feel free to add any other categories you can think of! Happy Opening Day Week 2011!!!

AL East - Red Sox

AL Central - White Sox

AL West - A's

AL Wild Card - Rays

NL East - Phillies

NL Central - Brewers

NL West - Rockies

NL Wild Card - Braves

Playoffs - crapshoot but I'll pick the Red Sox to win it all over the Rockies.

AL MVP - Adrian Gonzalez

NL MVP - Prince Fielder

AL Cy Young - Jon Lester

NL Cy Young - Tommy Hanson

AL Rookie of the Year - Michael Pineda

NL Rookie of the Year - Dominic Brown

Manager of the year is such a bogus stat I won't bother predicting it, whichever team plays over their head will win it, most likely by the manager abusing the starters and getting them hurt.

Hardest pick for me was the NL Central. I think the Reds can easily win it but I think they are the ones who are going to struggle with pitching this year, just too many injury question marks and too many guys with questionable control and Arroyo is the only pitcher I think they have that ends up with a full season.

Sounds like fun, I'll play http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

AL East: Boston

AL Central: Chicago

AL West: Oakland

NL East: Philadelphia

NL Central: Cincinnati

NL West: Colorado

AL Wildcard: Tampa Bay

NL Wildcard: Milwaukee

Boston is clearly the team to beat in the AL East with Tampa losing to many key contributors and the Yankees just to old.

It's hard to pick against Minnesota in the Al Central, but I just think Chicago will get it done this year.

Should probably gone with Texas in the AL West, but I really like Oakland's pitching staff.

Philadelphia, like Boston is clear favorite in the NL East.

As much as I want to pick the Brewers in the NL Central, I think Cincinnati has better depth to overcome adversity.

The NL West was hardest to pick, I think Colorado has best talent and depth.

AL East
Boston Red Sox
AL Central
Chicago White Sox
AL West
Los Angeles Angels
AL Wild Card
New York Yankees

Boston on paper is a beast and should have the best record in baseball. I think the Yankees have one last run with this set of players (Jeter, Posada, Mo, even A-Rod) and I expect both of them to win 95-100 games. I think the Angels are really getting overlooked as their rotation is every bit as good as the Brewers #1-4. I think they win 90ish games and Texas falls back to about 85. However, the real beast of the AL is the White Sox. That lineup, combined with the pitching staff, assuming Peavy can pitch, is a legit championship team. 100 wins is possible.

NL East
Atlanta Braves
NL Central
Milwaukee Brewers
NL West
Colorado Rockies
NL Wild Card
Philadelphia Phillies

Phillies seem to have a bit of bad karma going into the season but have too much talent to not make the playoffs. Like the Yankees, I feel like this may be one of their last runs as their lineup is aging very quickly. Though they will have excellent pitching for the next few seasons. May be the Giants east after 2011. The Braves are solid everywhere. I expect McLouth turns back to McLouth and Freeman performs at a 2005 Lyle Overbay level. Their pitching lacks the dominant ace though and that will hurt come playoff time. The Rockies pitching scares me after Ubaldo but there may not be a better 1-2 combo than Tulo-CarGo. Sorry Braun-Fielder. Ian Stewart breaks out to make it a scary 3-4-5 which carries them past the Dodgers and Giants. As for the Crew, it's a homer pick but in the Central, no one can honestly match the Brewers everyday lineup and no one can match Greinke-Gallardo-Marcum. Assuming the bullpen isn't a trainwreck, the Brewers win the Central by 2-4 games over Cincinnati by going 88-74.

I think people are over stating how good the Red Sox are. After Lester and Buchholz there are a lot of question marks in the Red Sox rotation. Will Beckett be like he was in 2009 and 2010? Lackey is another question mark in the rotation with Matsuzaka being the biggest question mark in the rotation. I am not all that certain that the Red Sox are this dominant team that everyone is making them out to be. They have some serious questions marks in that starting rotation but it is not as bad as the Yankees have as I don't see them making the playoffs. Philadelphia also has some question marks but that is mostly due to injuries on their offensive side but their bullpen is not all that good. I don't see the Rays making the playoffs I believe the AL central will have two teams in the playoffs the Rays bullpen is what will do them in.
