Let Down by Radiohead is by far my favorite.

There is a new one by this Welsh band called The Joy Formidable, song is Whirring. Great guitar and drums at the build up.

Neither of these start with an acoustic guitar but have a good crescendos in my opinion.

Skynyrd -- "Freebird"

Doesn't fit with the acoustic guitar criterion, though.

EDIT: Thought of one more, because I'm a big Dave Matthews Band fan.

The Velvet Underground's "Heroin" is my ultimate build up song. Bowie does this quite a bit, specifically with "Rock and Roll Suicide". I like a good buildup, but I'm more a fan of the huge unexpected drop at the 2-3 minute mark.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Like I said, it doesn't have to start

out acoustically....it just has to build up. I'm pretty sure Tool has

no idea what an acoustic guitar is but many of their songs build up. The Brewerfan community has an amazing taste in music is all I have to say.

I don't know about the acoustic guitar requirement, but to me the most 'epic' change of pace song ever is 'Come Sail Away' by Styx. You go from the piano beginning that sounds like the Mr. Belvidere theme song to a dual guitar arena rocker. I dare you to find anyone who owned the cassette who hasn't fast forwarded to 'the good part'.

Another one would be 'American Woman' by the Guess Who (the full version). I also thought of Lionel Richie's 'Say You, Say Me', which has an brief but totally rocking guitar bridge that elevates it from elevator music for about 20 seconds.
